Did he just say that they would have had to decide to sacrifice the vehicle, get to a certain altitutde, and ask the crew to bail out?

The question he was answering was what could NASA do, if the decision was to fly in, without
putting much pressure on one of the two wings. He said that that flight path would
certainly crash the vehicle, so the occupants would have to bail out to have any chance.
