NEVER name the kids "Chablis" and "Chardonnay" -- that kind of thing just attracts the bullies!
Sad story, tho ...

How many dogs die in the US every day? Why do they not make the national news? Why is this one different from them? Who are the freaks that really want to know this sort of news story? Who are the lousy reporters that think this is worth putting on the newswire?

"...Coyote's are fun to hunt though....smart buggers...."
One of the most memorable sights of my life was a gathering at dawn of local neighbors. The coon dogs were released first, to track the coyotes. When they picked up the scent and began pursuit, that was the signal to release the Greyhounds.
I'll never forget those greyhounds. It was like watching an African cheetah overtake and kill a zebra.

Probably neighbors who don't want their cats getting trapped, and the Giffords not checking the traps regularly. Trapping of any kind shouldn't be taken lightly -- it's almost impossible to avoid trapping unintended targets.
To: SandfleaCSC
Friendly advice to the Giffords...if you're going to let Chablis (or her and Chard's successors, God willing) run around outside, get some big, tough dogs as her bodyguards. Easier to get licensed, and if that coyote just happens to get his throat torn out...oh well. Bummer.

I didnt realize they had coyotes in Conn. Are they there because some animal-rights Nazis wanted wild animals near urban centers and farms/ranches? On the plus side, maybe they will help to thin out the exploding deer population. I have family up there and large groups of deer roam right through their yard all the time and even walk right up to the house. They are a real nuisance. The real problem is the amount of contact they have with cars. And because it is such a densely populated (people) area, no one can hunt them except in some of the more remote parts of the state so they have no real predators except for the coyotes.
In fact, we could use some of those coyote here in Northern VA to thin out our deer population.

Yes it is very sad .. but I had to take a second look at the title because isn't her son's name Cody?

I live on the edge of a nature preserve. One early morning about 2:00am, I was awakened by what sounded like cats fighting. I jumped out of bed and bolted to my bedroom window to see what was up. I looked out and saw a coyote right in front of my window with a neighbors black cat in its mouth flinging it back and forth. Blood and black hair was allover the coyotes face. I opened the window and started yelling at it. It ran away, but it was too late for the cat.
You know, its one thing to see these kind of things on the nature channel, but when happens at 2:00 in the morning and right in front of your bedroom window, it is a little disturbing.

I love dogs. I have two. A Siberian husky and a Weimeraner. We also have coyotes running through our property every day. My dogs have survived because they were not named after wine. We used to have a cat. Her name was Brie until the coyotes found her. Must be something about wine and cheese.............hmmmm?

I looked out and saw a coyote right in front of my window with a neighbors black cat in its mouth flinging it back and forth. This is reality. This is the wild world that the dimbulbs in PETA cannot comprehend.
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
what kind of neighbors wouldn't allow the Giffords to trap coyotes?Probably the same kind who object when I trap cats. The same kind who throw a fit if a rancher kills a wolf killing his livestock. The world is full of people who want to decree how others should live their lives.
