30-30?! Jeez Victor, you don't want to be shootin that cannon off in the living room! The noise, the smell!
If you wish to pot varmints from within the old dwelling as my beloved Grandma Annie (as in that Oakley) was embarassingly fond of doing (really a shockingly bad idea, not to mention probably illegal, we just couldn't break her of the habit), to woodchucks in the garden, or rabbits on the lawn, foxes, pheasants, squirrels, or anything else that came within range, edible or not; allow me to recommend the humble .22. Something with a long, long barrel, too. Hers was a long, octagonal barreled 1890s Hardware Store Special Single-Shot break-open old-timer with an external hammer. Heavy as hell. Couldn't be heard 100 yards away.
And don't be using those hot, noisy, super-duper nasty hollowpoint loads. (Well at least in that rifle!) Longs, NOT Long Rifle. Shot cartridges, too. A 4-power scope would have been nice. No long shots, either. Close to the house so you would be shooting DOWN. Oh yeah, you'll need a kid to pick up the occasional (OK, so she wasn't that great a shot) carcasses and to clean the rifle.
Important Family Shooting Sports Note:When the shooter gets to be about 85, or visually impaired, go to blanks. More on yard-kill recipes (none for coyote) to follow.

The important question here is "How could a big guy like FranK Gifford fit in that thing's doghouse?"

A coyote wouldn't have left anything laying around.I wondered about that when I first read the article. A coyote kills for food. No coyote is going to kill and leave the food lying on the ground and wander off. Any adult coyote would be able to carry a BF away. They can be pretty casual about this when there is no serious threat to them.

The Coyote National Anthem:
Me just a worthless coyote
Me howlin' at the moon
Me love to sing and holler
Me crazy as a loon
Me not want job or duties
No church or Sunday School
Me just a worthless coyote and me
Ain't nobody's FOOL!

is it white wine, rose, or Chardonnay that goes good with Bichon Frisse?I'd say it depends how you season it. For example, I like a Gewurtztraminer or Riesling with spicier foods, but for BBQ would just as soon go with a nice lager.

That would be amazing to watch. Animals in action certainly are incredible.

Some studies have shown that if coyotes are killed off the survivors just breed more to replace the dead ones. NOt if there aren't any left.

Coyotes in the neighborhood wouldn't be an entirely bad thing if they really helped control the deer population. But in general they don't. They prefer smaller, easier game, like cats, small dogs, rabbits, squirrels, little rodents, etc. Deer are too much work. Special bowhunts for deer in populated areas works pretty well too. But we have the bleeding hearts standing in the way. Boo hoo! I'd rather watch them starve and buy my meat at the store where I don't have to deal with the reality of death!

I saw some photos on a website of jack russells used to lure in the coyotes for a close shot. They'd do some squealing and when the coyotes were starting to come in, they'd set the JRT's on them... they would then come in to harass the JRT's who would deftly stay out of their way, and then the hunter would nail them.

Who'd a thunk that my thread on Kathy Lee's dog getting 86ed would have gone close to 200 posts.

"Hmmmm....remember when "varmint rifles" were sort of everyday tools in the family room? Like, say, a 30-30 carbine?"
Nostaligia for ignorance is not a good thing. The "kill all the varmints" mentality has led to extinction, threatned populations, and outright cruelty as stupid and ignorant people blast any animal they don't like.
Gee, call me crazy, but I believe we're supposed to share this world with the rest of creation. I feel badly for Kathie Lee and others who lose their pets to predators. The moral is not to bring back the murderous days of killing animals on sight, but to keep your pets indoors or outdoors under supervision.

Um... How do we know that this was done by a coyote? Gifford states that she found the dog "out on the ice". Who's to say that it wasn't a local dog that did it? Was there an ACME label nearby?

"No coyote is going to kill and leave the food lying on the ground and wander off."That's right, that's something a stray dog would do. The little pup may have also have got into a scrap with some 'coons.

Bichon Frise Sure sounds like an entree in a fancy french restaurant No...but certainly a Korean Restaurant.
Of course, then it would be called an Inchon Frise!
