Is France Really and "Ally"?

Is France really an Ally?

Most would instinctively answer "yes." But is this correct? True they are an an ally in terms of the fact that they support democracy, freedom, and western liberal ideals. But I propose that this fact is not enough to consider them our ally. True, they are not trying to bomb us, and true they are not totalitarian. But this is of no consequence. If these conditions were the lodestone of alliance, then many of our allies during the cold war with conservative dictatorships would have had to have been considered our enemies. Therefore a country's form of government is not enough to guarantee a nation's status as either an ally or a foe.

That that France doesn't want to bomb us is also of no consequence. If desire to kill us, or the lack thereof, were the only criterion, then out of the 200 plus nations on this Earth, we would have over 193 allies, since only the "rouge states" would not be our ally. Nonetheless, an argument could be made that France does wish that someone else would bomb us, so indirectly, maybe such a definition might suffice in the determination that France is an enemy.

We do not have to be that indirect in determining that France is indeed an enemy of our people in the classic sense. The word ally signifies mutual association, collaboration, support confederacy and aid. France has consistently sought to thwart any attempt to collaborate with the United States, and has tried its hardest to preclude any other nation from doing so. France's actions since the 1960's have not only been obstructionist to our national interests, but have been intrinsically enimical to the security and integrity of the United States. Most recently and pointedly, France has been committed to a policy aimed at preventing the United States from protecting its people and properties from mass destruction, and denying the United States citzenry its divine right to self defense.

One conclusion is certain therefore - France is the adversary. Though unlike ideological enemies, it does not wish to impose a form of government on our people, nor does it actively aim for our conquest or destruction,(though it can not be denied that it does passively desire such a result) it has been committed to a policy which at its center is the destruction of the interests of the United States. Their cultural simalrity, and their liberal democracy do not make them our ally. It must be remembered that before the first world war, western nations shared the same religion and forms of government yet they were all involved in centuries old fratricidal enmity. That France is not as evil as Iraq does not make them an ally either. To say that all our adversaries have to mutilate their people and have a fondness for pathogens to be considered an adversary, is to say that all of our alliances have to be as strong as the one we share with the United Kingdom.

Down with France!

With enemies like France and new best friends like Russia, won't be long before we are not just cooking financial books, but history books too. In the end just like the fall of ancient Rome it will be good old America against the world, funny that we don't speak latin anymore.

It is the French that created the wedge the media drives between us.
