Just wanted to get the word out to the Sacramento FReeper Chapter about the 2/16 counter-protest in San Francisco. Maybe some of you would like to join us?

In January, 300 Sacramento Socialist
chartered buses to attend the SF hate fest.

I'll provide a pick-up truck with a rack suitable for a large sign plus
a mobile P.A. System and a second vehicle that can take four people
comfortably.  Can we find six outspoken pro-Americans in Sacto to go?

KFBK's Mark Williams has offered to promote such an event next
week if we can generate any interest.  How about it Sacramento?

PEACE
INSURANCE!

TOUGH LOVE  for SADDAM

David... what's the chance of KSFO and you doing a live remote from the rally at City Hall... It might well be the only hope we'd have of media coverage and pulling more pro-American rally participants. Our Sacramento folks may be few in number but we're there to support SF Freepers. We've had some great inspirational speakers who can whip up patriotic spirit and great music to boot.

Obviously, we need to check on permits for sound systems and the like... but you folks at KSFO could make a huge difference in getting the message out. Without talk radio, we'd NERVER have had 5,000 pro Bush grassroots supporters at the famous rallies of November/December 2000 in both SF and Sacto.

Hi,

I just wanted to throw some information your way about the situation at the SF City Hall counter-protests. We don't really have our own staging area, just the City Hall steps and even so, they're not really ours. Last time, the peaceniks surged up into our ranks and insisted on trying to drown/push us out. It didn't work, but it made for some intense moments. According to the police officers right behind us, anyone can be on the steps, so they can't really protect us and "our space" (unless violence breaks out).

For that reason, I don't think we can hold a rally like you seem to have in mind. I checked and we do need a permit if we have loudspeakers or anything electrical, and they won't give us a permit if one's already taken for that area. So music and speeches are probably out. Mostly we just do kind of a stand off, which involves the lefties staring at us and nashing their teeth, while we calmy stand out ground.

I still think it would be great to have media coverage, so if David is interested, I'm all for it. But it will probably have to consist of a "roving reporter," type approach, since a van isn't really feasible (at least as far as I can tell).

Not trying to rain on the parade, just to inject some local experience into the discussion. And I hope the Sacramento FReepers will join us anyway!

No problem---there will be plenty of other opportunities for "pro-war" demonstrations, I'm sure!

Rally Update

I just got an email back from Melanie Morgan at KSFO and she's going to mention our counter-protest on her show! I also emailed Brian Wilson, Barbara Simpson and Sean Hannity with the same request, just in case:)

The Stanford and Berkeley Republicans have been invited, as have the Sacramento and Fresno Chapters.

Thanks to all the FReepers who helped get the word out this is shaping up to be our biggest counter-protest yet!

Look out San Francisco peaceniks, the "Conservative Onslaught" (heard on Crossfire yesterday) is coming to town!

Trust me... your clarifications aren't raining on anyone's parade... you are, after all, our gracious hosts in hostile territory. Any of our core Sacto group will understand that and not cause a problem. We're there to support you!

You said, "We don't really have our own staging area, just the City Hall steps and even so, they're not really ours."

Has the opposition camp applied for and been granted a permit for City Hall? Can we make some calls? There's a First Amendment equal rights issue at play here. As liberal as the SF powers that be are, the last thing they would want is media reports that they might be violating someone's First and Fourteenth Constitutional Rights!

I find most police officers root for us behind the scenes even though they are obligated to be impartial. When you noted "According to the police officers right behind us, anyone can be on the steps, so they can't really protect us and "our space" I can offer you living proof what happens here, when the opposition tries to mess with our message or get their mugs in our television coverage.  More Photo and the story at Patriotwatch.com

As far as my intent to circle the wagons (if possible) I'll take my chances on getting a ticket for using a P.A. on my truck to give a few shots at the anti-everything bunch.  You folks can't be held responsible for some out-a-town pissed off middle aged white guy leading a convoy around the unwashed masses main protest space.  Their permit will not likely include blocking traffic.  we'd need to do some planning as to the best routes.

Thanks for the link---it looks like you Sacto FReepers had quite a day! And I'm happy to see that the police up there helped you guys out. The thing is, San Francisco really is a different animal (literally!). We're truly on the "frontlines" here. And no disrespect to the SFPD, but let's just say, they tend to go easy on the peaceniks. Having said that, I thanked several of them after our last counter-protest and one of them answered "No, thank you." About the permit. I admit, I tried to found out about it last time and was shuffled from one bureaucrat to another, until I hung up in frustration! Maybe I'm not the person for that job?:) Before I hung up, I gathered that we only needed a permit for electrical equipment (this doesn't include you driving around with your truck as an independent, obviously), but strangely, that only one permit could be given at one time in one area (does that makes sense?) and the peaceniks were ahead of us. And since they have a permit for the whole Civic Center Plaza, that includes the City Hall steps. The police just guard the entrance to City Hall and we end up standing in front of them (believe it or not) with a sea of loonies in front of us!

So that's the situation we have to work with. If you (or anyone else) wants to look into the permit situation, that would be fine, but I don't know if it would really change anything? As to your driving your truck around with a bullhorn, I think that would be great! Traffic is very heavy around there, but you could make quite an impression on Van Ness Ave. in gridlock!

It would be impossible to do a remote out there. I'm just hoping to get reports from you guys. Thanks for what you do!
