African-Americans drowning in wave of illegal immigration
Houston Chronicle ^ | February 2, 2003 | TERRY ANDERSON

THE black community has made great strides in the last few decades. Racism has certainly not been eradicated, but it is no longer accepted with a wink and a nod as it once was. We are proud to see Secretary of State Colin Powell, even when we do not agree with everything he does. The same with Condoleezza Rice, the president's national security adviser, and many others.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that in some regions we black folks are so overwhelmed by the huge numbers of immigrants that we are being displaced in our schools, jobs and neighborhoods.

That may seem a harsh thing for a black person to say against brown people, but I don't see it that way. I am an American, proud of both my nation and my race. What I see in my community of South Central Los Angeles -- where I have lived nearly all my life -- is thousands of Mexicans who care nothing about our traditions and culture, and only want to impose their way on us. That's not immigration, that is invasion.

It is sad what has happened in my neighborhood. This was a respectable, blue-collar area of hard-working black folks living in their bungalows and going to their jobs. In just a couple decades it has become almost entirely Mexican. They live several families to a three-bedroom house and keep chickens in the yard, but the city doesn't care about the zoning violations or the noise of having so many crowded into a small space.

According to the Census Bureau, nearby Watts is now 60 percent Hispanic, and it was previously the black community on the West Coast. No longer.

The immigration situation is really hard on our young people. A 17-year-old kid on my street couldn't get a job at McDonald's because he didn't speak Spanish. Another young neighbor boy was thrown into a bilingual classroom at age 8 and was forced to listen to Spanish all day long. His six-hour school day was turned into three hours. When his mother asked for an English-only class, she was told "there are none."

Would you believe that I, a black man, have been called a racist many times for speaking up against this invasion? I have a radio program on the subject and therefore hear from a lot of people, even some in Mexico.

When they call me a racist, I put this question to them: What if a hundred thousand Vietnamese were suddenly dropped into Guadalajara? And what if those newcomers didn't speak Spanish, and further insisted that their children be taught in Vietnamese? What would you think if they were happy to work for half the normal wages for any job they could get, thereby putting thousands of your local Guadalajarans out of work? Would it be racist to say there was a problem?

When people of good will and good sense hear the situation put that way, nearly all understand and respect my viewpoint.

Now if only they would listen in Washington. America's political leaders are the problem. They have been selling out this great nation for real and imaginary political benefits while ignoring the dangers. Even after Sept. 11, nothing has been done to plug up our borders. Another terrorist attack could be 10 times worse, and it would likely happen because Congress and the president learned nothing about the need to keep the nation's borders secure.

If I sound angry, you hear right. Like other Americans, I want immigration to be legal, controlled and reduced. But as a black American, I see that the burden my people must carry is heavier than for many others. I am sure that if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., were alive, he would understand the fundamental unfairness to the black community of allowing more immigration than the nation can handle.

But when over 80% of the American people, of all races, are screaming about the horrendous consequences of uncontrolled illegal immigration, and both parties pretty much laugh in our faces...Something's wrong.

Yes, something's terribly wrong. And when 98% of american politicians who want to be re-elected are re-elected, then there's something terribly wrong. If we re-elected only 30%, then the people would be in charge more so. In my opinion we should vote the politicians out when they displease us regardless of who the challenger is. You have a republican senator or congressman who refuses to do stop illegal immigration, you vote them out regardless of whether you end up voting for a dem. Otherwise the citizens of this country will not rule this country. It's the New World Order, they're fixing the candidates, the races and the media stories behind the scenes in order to bypass the democracy completely.

I've been trying to tell all of you on here for YEARS that this situation is huge and getting bigger. Nothing but flames. I say learn to live with it now and don't call me.

One thing needs to be said over and over again: The problem with America today is not the blacks and its not the immigrants. It is the elite liberals who control our institutions (and they are almost totally white). These elites are, for their own economic and political purposes, flooding the nation with legal and illegal immigrants. When the reaction finally occurs among working class whites (and, in light of this article, from working class blacks as well) it could be ugly. But the blame will rest with those who crafted the policies for their own nefarious reasons.

You are right on target. But, no one is listening.

Someone on another forum posted this link, American Empire

There is some interesting stuff there.

"To say today, as some do, that the United States needs trade with the rest of the world per se to sustain its level of economic well being simply does not comport with the facts. The fact of the matter is the United States enjoyed its highest standard of living - during the 1950s and early 1960s - at a time when it carried on very little foreign trade vis a vis its overall Gross National Product. Why? - because it possessed in itself all the attributes of great wealth:

An abundance of natural resources.
Powerful and dynamic business combinations.
A well educated and motivated work force.
A well developed physical infrastructure.
A powerful internal market."

It's a long read, but, alot of it makes sense.

I agree, with the intent (at some unspecifiable point down the road) of having so much power vested in "supranational" organizations and NGOs, that the PTB can ignore national governments, constitutions, national laws, and best of all, those pesky voters. For now, laws, constitutions, and the citizenries must be given lip service, but the day is coming when even that will be withheld.

Here's a vision of the political future that the Dems won't like. There is already a division between blacks and browns at the street level. It is inevitable that the divisions will spill over to their political leadership. That's what comes of sponsoring divided cultures instead of a strong and united American culture.

I'm surprised the Houston Comical ran this piece. It probably only saw the light of day because Mr. Anderson is black.

Gotta say as a small 'l' libertarian, I'm now for closing the borders.

It's much more likely than ending welfare. If we ended welfare, we could stop the migration. But that's not going to happen.

My only fear of closing the borders is, I won't be able to escape if I need to..... seriously, that was my main objection.

Amen! That would destroy the cornerstone of why they come.

Disagree, most come for social programs.

And I disagree with that. Social programs play a factor, but not the driving ones.

But one would think that Americans of all stripes would stand together on this issue. That doesn't appear to be the case with some here.

You're absolutely right. Unfortunately, those of us who believe in enforcing our immigration laws do not include the leaders of the Republican Party. This cave-in to the liberal agenda (let's call it 'compassionate' conservatism) is fostering this vindictive attitude towards blacks. Hopefully blacks will realize that this "multicultural" agenda was never on their behalf to begin with and will destroy them as assuredly as it will the rest of the nation.

Naturally blacks have a lot to lose from the invasion of the U.S., just as all Americans do.

Maybe that depends on where someone lives which they see more of. Here it's the social programs and other free things they're coming for but unemployment here is very high. I think California obviously attracts those looking for social programs. I guess you could count those you see collecting SSI, food stamps, WIC, free school lunch, Medicaid etc and compare with the numbers actually out working ---of course there's an overlap too because some might work AND collect whatever benefits they can. They'd almost have to in order to agree to work for very low wages that give them no benefits like employer provided insurance.

There are many businesses here which discriminate against blacks, you almost find no blacks working in most of the stores. It's interesting because an English speaking business can't discriminate along ethnic lines but Spanish speaking businesses always do.

My, how the pendulum of the "Civil Rights" laws have swung the other way.

What goes around, comes around, I guess.

I know for some reason I had previously had a stereotype that most LA criminals would be of a different race. I guess usually we think they'd be mostly black gang members because we seem to hear about those or are told that. We're also told that all hispanics are conservative family oriented church-goers but I don't think our prisons and most-wanted lists prove they all are that.
