Most of the world is grieving, but some say 'God has retaliated'
02/02/2003
The Washington Post
LONDON Much of the world expressed shock, grief and condolences Saturday for the loss of the space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew, but some in the Arab world saw the tragedy as divine justice against the United States and Israel.
< snip >
But on the streets of Baghdad, Iraq, where many are braced for U.S. military action, some said the loss of the shuttle and its crew was God's retribution.
"We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar Quraishi told Reuters news service. "God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us."
Noting that among the dead was Col. Ramon, a fighter pilot who participated in a 1981 bombing attack that destroyed an Iraqi nuclear reactor, car mechanic Mohammed Jaber Tamini said: "Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason. Now time has come, and God has retaliated to their aggression."

"Or it was an accident."
An accident? God is all powerful. There is no such thing as an accident that God is unable to prevent.
We know that God did not prevent this one. Indeed, it was an accident held up before the eyes of an entire nation. It's true, God did not prevent this. But we know He could have.
Don't you wonder why He didn't prevent it?? Don't you have any ideas??

Or maybe God has other plans that we cannot see. It is bold and self centered to presume you know the plans of God. He sometimes does things for other reasons. If we live by His laws, and follow his will, we are protected. However, if you presume to know why He does what he does, you may find you don't know what you are talking about. As it was stated after 9/11, where was God? God caused the traffic jam that make 3000 people late, He made alarm clocks silent and keys be locked in cars. There were more people who were not in that building than were killed. He did that. Yes, America is not the best place, but remember Lot could not find 10 good people. There are tons more than that here. None of this is America's fault. Are you saying that back in the 40's when we had life more to God's liking, there was no disasters? Explain Pearl Harbor....

Legal baby killing, homosexual unions sanctioned, rampant drug and alcohol abuse, popular entertainment media, ect ect ect Those things are all outlawed in Muslim countries. Maybe God is a Muslim.
Open your Bible, my friend. There are scores of examples where God uses evil armies as a means for punishment. That is what the terrorists/Saddam are/will be to us.

There is no such thing as an accident that God is unable to prevent. Are you saying that God is so weak that He couldn't create something that He couldn't prevent?
Are you saying that God hated those astronauts so He killed them? He's like a great cosmic Hitman? Hmmm...that would also mean that if someone has a tragic accident or disease, then God hated them.

Oh, c'mon, its not that complex.
God couldn't make it more clear. God has repeatedly told us through the prophets that if humans will serve Him and follow His commandments (at least keep a civilized level of decency and morality), He will bless and protect. If we do not serve Him and follow His ways, we will be punished.
Why is it so darn difficult to understand that?

"God has repeatedly told us through the prophets that if humans will serve Him and follow His commandments (at least keep a civilized level of decency and morality), He will bless and protect."Excuse me, but it seems like you're backtracking a bit from your previous (one might say, ludicrous) chest-thumping. They're commandments, not tentative suggestions. I haven't seen anything about "a civilized level" in my readings of the Bible...
Personally, I think if God were serious about punishing evildoing nations, you'd see a heckuva lot of lightning rods in the Gulf region, not His swatting from the skies a shuttle with 7 people aboard.
Sheesh.
To: joyful1
Don't you wonder why He didn't prevent it?? Don't you have any ideas??God's wisdom is far more infinte than ours. God's purpose is far more than we can fathom. We cannot infer that God is removing protection from his children, as you have inferred in your continued posts.
If that's your limited perception of God, I would strongly suggest you engage in some serious Biblical study and perhaps correspond with your theologian.
