Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

Er...I haven't read this entire thread, but may I point out that only a fool takes at face value any accounts of man-in-the-street opinion coming out of Iraq. As John Burns of the NY Times has pointed out, nobody on the street can say what he really thinks, unless it's in tune with the government's policies. If anybody had said, "what a terrible tragedy, I'm so sorry," he'd have been hauled off to the nearest torture chamber, with his wife and kids for company. So you shouldn't get too concerned about these "celebrations." They don't mean a thing.

Then the Iraqis said nothing about the shuttle? It's just a big lie posted by whom -- the Zionist press? Please provide specifics.

The Arabs are stupid and bad. Not PC to say so, but ...

"We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.We know you are. Actually, the first thing that came to my mind after seeing what happened was how happy the Islamonazis would be.

My first response to my husband (after watching for a bit) was that you just watch...someone will claim to be hit by flying debris and will SUE. The Palestine or Iraqi response was my second thought.

And the mentality of all pagans/atheists/agnostics must surely be that of mass generalization. Judging by your post, apparently such folk cannot make fine-grained distinctions and so think in stereotype. Sigh...

You know, sickos like you seem to have a sadosexual fantasy of God killing innocent Americans over other people getting abortions. You relish it, writhe in it, and smugly pronounce it as a fact.
A "god" which would act like that is sick, and nothing more than a demon, and you and anyone you know who follow such a laughingstock of a psychotic theology really just need to go away.

I understand (and agree with) your feeling, but did you say the same thing about Jerry Falwell after 9/11?

Unless these spiteful, hate worshipping demon seeds God is Satan, he must be very angry at being portrayed as such an evil and petty excuse for a Deity by them.

Who is this person? What's he do in the government. Is he a spokesman? Somehow I don't think so. He just "works for government"? Oh, but he was backed up by that car mechanic also, so that wraps that up. Er...

Just one small nuke. Thats all I ask. I will deliver it myself. You're nicer than I am. My thoughts involved ice picks, a vice, some kerosene and matches.

>> God is avenging us
Yeah WTF ever.
I've spent the day watching the news on TV and trying to get my computer working - took some time but came down to pulling out a bad stick of RAM (I suppose God did that, too).
We'll deal with our tragedy first, so the'll have to wait for our response, but we'll get back to them on it soon enough.

Isaiah 54:10 - 17 10 Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
11 "O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
I will build you with stones of turquoise,
your foundations with sapphires.
12 I will make your battlements of rubies,
your gates of sparkling jewels,
and all your walls of precious stones.
13 All your sons will be taught by the LORD,
and great will be your children's peace.
14 In righteousness you will be established:
Tyranny will be far from you;
you will have nothing to fear.
Terror will be far removed;
it will not come near you.
15 If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
whoever attacks you will surrender to you.
16 "See, it is I who created the blacksmith
who fans the coals into flame
and forges a weapon fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc;
17 no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
and this is their vindication from me,"
declares the LORD.
