Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

I thought you might remember during Desert Storm where a couple of British soldiers (pilots?) called a Bagdad hotel for reservations. They said they were coming there soon. When the desk clerk found out why they wanted the room, the clerk got angry hung up. I was impressed. Looking for the whole story on the web, no luck yet.

It has been 6 hours since this disaster, and we are fighting about God.
How about we drop to our knees instead.

strange indeed...
we got to get rid of the religious nutcakes....
ON a good weekend in LA... only seven people die.
Most of their deaths would, on a national and international scale, be relatively ignored and meaningless to the world at large.
THESE folks lived well, and died doing EXACTLY what they wanted to do, they did it in the service of our country... and I think they delivered a pretty important satellite for us this week.
Perhaps a military one.
That means their lives were given in defense of our faith, our liberties and freedom all over the world.
If I had to CHOOSE between a car wreck, a drive by in LA, or an honorable death, in a blaze of glory serving my nation and the cause of world peace...
I don't think I would choose the "drive-by"...
God is not responsible for tragedy.
WE however might be... since we elected clintong and the democrats twice, to the senate who killed our space program $$ investment, particularly when we needed it to grow for national security reasons...

That's what we said too. They will cheer this tragedy. How can ANYONE in their right mind even doubt the action the United States of America is about to take. To cheer the 9-11 attacks by dancing in the street and now to listen to these low life pond scum saying they are glad the shuttle broke up? You are either with us or against us and that goes for hollywierd too!

You're right to let it go, CA guy. Most know you never implied that this disaster was a punishment from God, while still acknowledging the Biblical belief that God sometimes punishes sins directly. Others will never understand, nor be convinced.

We will make things right for the crew and their families concerning the Iraqi response to this national tragedy. God Bless America!!

You need to go back and read your Bible. When you get finished, you need to repent for being a numbskull. Thats the most insensitive and stupid remark I have heard in a while. Some people obviously think the Bible is God's gift for them to judge and condemn everybody around them.
Perhaps when something tragic happens to them or their loved ones, they will likewise be consoled by others who tell them it is really God's judgement for their sins.

Ah yes, the old "Christians are Islamofascists" and "all religion is evil" stuff. It is amazing how at a time of tragedy how people will push their agendas, isn't it?

"So glad that our President quoted the scripture he did during his address to the nation."
Me, too. It was very appropriate -- but I don't think it did much to endear us to the liberals and the Muslims (not that I care about that).

I would like to quote another of Ronald Reagan's famous quotes (in regard to Iraq)
"...we begin bombing in 5 minutes..."
Lets go get them

I know this is a very un-PC thing to say, but I am really pixxed off.
It's a GD good thing that I am not President or it would be:
"I'm PMS'ing and I have nukes!"

~~~The sand people of the moon-god though are in a whole class of evil of their own, beyond what we do with abortion, but we are no prize in the eyes of God IMO due to all the abortions in America.~~~
To help you in your stated goal to NOT derail this thread with your views about cause and effect in re: to abortion, I have prepared the following statement you may use to address all who respond to you.
"Thank you for your post, however, the discussion of abortion, on this thread, is inappropriate and as I stated earlier, we should not derail the topic of the thread."
I agree, many kept going to the issue so I answered them.
This all started because another Freeper brought up the issue and I said they had a point on some level.
But like you said, this is a thread to point out the stupidity of Iraq's remarks and a place to express our sorrow.
God bless the families who lost their loved one.
Thanks justshe.
