They said the female astronaut, the one who was born in India, made some mistakes on a previous shuttle mission that other astronauts had to correct via a space walk to retrieve a satellite
I keep wondering whether she was piloting. Also whether she was Islamic or Hindu or Christian. It also crossed my mind that few others would be given a second chance... why her? Twofer?

Several other astronauts were given a second chance at a mission after a major embarrassing foulup. Keep in mind that if an astronaut dreams of a mission, it involved extra EVA and not every mission gives every astronaut an EVA. EVA experience is valuable. Sounds like the goof ate up some time, but was far from terrible! Sheesh. When the shock wears off, wait'll you hear about some of the other goofs in missions...

Oh, good grief. I certainly hope lurkers do not consider that statement to be atypical of FReeper mentality and intelligence. That particular astronaut immigrated here in the early 80's, she was a scientist not a pilot. She would not have been flying the shuttle at any time. For the record, the pilots weren't flying it at that point either. It was computer controlled.

I keep wondering whether she was piloting. Also whether she was Islamic or Hindu or Christian. Incidents like this bring all the cockroaches out. For Christ sakes, idiot, a mission specialist doesnt fly the shuttle. She is a passenger. If something goes wrong the pilot flies the plane. Until something goes wrong, the shuttle is flown completely automatically by computer. If you have to blame this on Islam, look for a Islamic programmer who was a mole and dont throw wild accusations against a loyal American citizen of Indian birth.
