Who knows...FOX reported some sort of incident on the left wing during launch...at 200000feet, highly unlikely that a missle got it..in my opine...
ALL--Sorry about that bad post with the shuttle patch, I didn't see the resolution tag..my error. Thanks Admin for pulling it off...

But then again, how could such an event take place? My question, prayers for the families who were watching re-entry at Mission Control

No, the DOD is mobilizing assets to assist NASA. NASA often is supported by DOD in special circumstances and for special things.

Just heard on the news that the Joint Chiefs are in some sort of "Domestic Events" meeting.

Some of those booms could be jets flying toward the scene. I was outside a few minutes ago and saw what appeared to be a military jet at a high rate of speed heading in the direction of the crash. I'm east of Dallas.

The shuttle exploded?? Guys, tell me what's going on, I don't have cable.....all I can really glean from the posts is that it blew up...do they suspect it was shot down? How did this happen?
You can see the CSPAN video/audio feed here: CSPAN video feeds
They just told people to be careful of the debris. NASA has accepted that the shuttle is lost over Texas.

Is there any way this could be terrorism? Could a ballistic missile have taken it out? Or could a terrorist infiltrated NASA and planted something.
Dear, God. Comfort their families.

Yesterday, I noticed that some newscaster on Fox was making a point that security was very heavy regarding the shuttle's re-entry. I noted the comments because I have never heard such commentary before. It actually made me pause and reflect on whether or not there may have been some specific reason...such as a terrorist threat...
I suggest someone look over yesterday's Fox News archive and and take a look at the unusual wording concerning "security" on this particular flight's landing.
Sorry, if this seems tinfoilish, but I did think this was unusual...
Joining all of you my friends as you lift your prayers of concern for our fallen brothers and sisters heavenward...

Is it anywhere possible we could have heard a sonic boom or noise of some sort as far away as Long Island, NY.
About 8:50 my daughter and I heard a long wind, plane-like sound... longer and louder than one I can remember. No wind was blowing the American Flag flying outside my house, so it was not wind... it was eeire... Didn't think anything of it until about 25 mins later when the story broke.
God Bless.

While this is tragic, keep this in perspective. Statistically, more people died in traffic accidents last night, than have died in the space program.Hell...More people died by hitting deer last night. But that won't stop the American people from overreacting.

I've been thinking they were getting awfully old. I guess with rockets, it could happen at any time.

OMG! Am I hearing correctly? Are they suspecting some kind of missle shootdown? No missile can travel at Mach 14. It is not a missile.
The left wing was damaged during launch by a piece of insulation foam that detached from the main fuel tank.
