no missile

I understand a spy satalite was already tracking its entry. It always does. If there was a missle, it seems as though it would have been seen by the satalit transmission?

Sorry. UCMJ states that I'm to take no monetary gain or bonus from anything I do to assist the civilian media. This one was a freebie. I'm sure Mr. Ailes will appreciate the cost savings.

I doubt totally that we are going to leave those folks stranded on the space station.

Don't forget the Russians. Unmanned rockets and Soyuz escape pods. No shuttles are needed to get them back down here.

My guess is this will be like last time: Lots of chatter about shutting down the entire space program while NASA grounds all remaining shuttles pending the conclusions of the investigatory commission. And then, once they figure out what went wrong and fix it, we'll go right back to using the shuttles. We have nothing else, and no money to invest in better space flight technologies.

Too bad Feynman's not going to be around for this commission. Remember when he dunked the O-ring in a glass of water?

What ever became of the Russian Shuttle? have they mothballed it? Would they be able to roll it out for use at the ISS or to augment the U.S. Shuttle till we can get another one built?

This was an accident, plain and simple.

It's too soon to say it's an accident or terrorism. I know we like to have certainty in our lives, but sometimes we must put up with ambiguity until the evidence can be examined and the truth can be determined.

Better lower the success rate a little. Apollo 3. Grissom, White and Chaffee.

Latest video is hearbreaking.

Shot in Louisianna I believe. You can see an initial explosion, and then several pieces start to break up, and then fall away.

My sister in Law saw the launch 2 weeks ago, while in Florida.

Am speechless.

The U.S. should discontinue manned space flight ASAP. In particular, the Shuttle is a failed technology. The premise that the shuttle could lift satellites cheaper than unmanned rockets proved to be incorrect. The program limps along because it has a powerful interest group behind it and bureaucratic inertia.
