Looking at the weather NEXRAD image over Texas, there is a band along the eastern side of TX. Do you think this could be airborne debris?

CBS radio news brodacasted an interview with a government official who reported recovery of an arm and a hand. Just brodcast on national news.

Bovine scatology.

CBS radio news is full of s**t. They should just report piles of ice from the shuttle ice-maker have been recovered as well.

I have been in the memorial hall at the Cape. This picture will join with all that gave their lives for our future.

And I'm guessing that everything on that shuttle goes through multiple checks and is probably monitored and tested continually.

I would hope that too have been surprised again and again at how security gets taken for granted in the US in too many other ways when it really isn't there. I would keep an open mind at this point.

There was some kind of incident at launch with tiles falling off a wing. Heard something in the distant past re the Challenger about how range security at launch is so tight that one could never get within 30-06 rifle range. Wonder about .50 caliber rifle range. It would be good to find out that the Space Shuttle is an impossibly hard terrorist target but I don't know that that is true.

Also, a lot of stuff about NASA launches has been contracted out. I don't know if the contractor employees who have access to the Space Shuttle have to be US citizens.

Something also could have been slipped on board with all the third-party scientific experiment packages that are piggybacked, or something could have been sabotaged. And (maybe someone from NASA could speak to this) NASA itself doesn't seem to use security clearances. Commercial background checks only look for a police or conviction record. The 9-11 terrorists were clean in that respect.

Praying hard.

Not to discount the pain that all of us in the US will feel, in Israel it will be extreme. They've followed this mission as Americans followed space flight in the early 80's. There were TV interviews with Ilan Ramon on a regular basis; Israelis followed his progress every day. No doubt much of the nation was watching the re-entry as well.

Moose4:

I don't think there's enough density at 207,000 feet to make a noise that you'd hear on the ground.

I saw the Shuttle re-entry that brought Dr. Shannon Lucid home from her stay on Mir. I viewed this from Calgary, Alberta, and the Shuttle was higher than 200,000 at that time. There was a sonic boom, a faint one, but one nevertheless.

At the risk of sounding totally DUH... is it possible for someone to hack into the computers on the shuttle or to have done something to alter the program that would have caused a skewed re-entry?

Stephonopolis (who I can't stand but happened to be on in the bg) even admitted that this President's plate is fuller than any in memorable history and that the Bush administration has generated the ability to handle crises better than any as well.

Backhand compliment from a Clintonite.

The amatuer video of the shuttle surely can't be from 200,000 feet above earth, can it?

My recollection is that the tiles are individually shaped for their position on the shuttle's surface. So repair in space would be somewhat difficult.

CBS news radio also reporting debris, including body parts, found in Jasper County, TX, near St. Augustine.

If it exploded on re-entry, it would have been so hot the body parts would have burnt to a sinder. How can there be body parts??

"CBS radio news brodacasted an interview with a government official who reported recovery of an arm and a hand. Just brodcast on national news."

Does anyone else, other then me, find this odd? If the Shuttle had broken apart at 200,000 feet would not flesh get burned up long before it hit the ground? Could NASA's figures be way off because of a glitch or did something else happen that we are not being told yet?

Again.

Just this week many of us were mourning the 17th anniversary of losing The Challenger.

God welcome these 7 home.
