And afterwars, how many states will admit that they get along just fine without the laid off workers?
PS Try cutting some of those usless programs along with their people.

I would just as soon the states fire a level or two of administrators, but whatever works. American families have to live within a budget, why shouldn't the state and federal governments?

No tears for workers who are no needed. I hate to see anybody lose their job, except when it is a government employee who is a crony. I know the cronies don't lose their jobs, but when a worker is let go the cronies has to step up and do some work. Why didn't any of these states save any of their surpluses for a rainy day ... DUMMIES!

The trouble is these RAT dominated states will punish the public by firing police and other essential personnel. The nitwit brother-in-law of the well connected political hacks who watches for tidal waves from mountain tops and shows up twice a month to collect a paycheck won't be touched.

PS Try cutting some of those usless programs along with their people. Yep. And KA really tickles me - keep paying for those welfare programs. Those would be the programs where the "state" has decided to pay for anything for anyone - legal / illegal - citizen or not. Yes sir, the dem-libs are on the right track.
Nevada will gladly take the migrating business population , as well.

If everything is on the table, let's see a vote on eliminating pensions and benefits for state legislators.

Two tax proposals:
1) Tax advertising. (Media in Arkansas are already mobilizing to oppose any such effort.)
2) Retroactive windfall profits tax on trial lawyers. Make them disgorge 50 percent of all fees paid at a rate higher than $500/hr. Make it retroactive to 1990.

What gets me about bureaucRATS is that they are either: Planning vacations, sick days, 20 year retirement plans, union bs, while fully understanding that the money is theirs to spend, but CERTAINLY not the taxpayers.
Been there and have seen it happen!

The Wall Street Journal had an article today in which the author asked the question: California has 229,000 workers and in order to cut costs we fire 200 state troopers?

Title should read:
States spend far more over the last five years than they should have.

Among the worst hit is New York State where Governor George Pataki yesterday proposed eliminating 5,000 of 229,000 state jobs, mostly through attrition. Big deal! A 2% cut through attrition. They should have worked in the aerospace industry over the years; that's had real cuts!

The business sector has been laying off middle managers for years. The states have a budget crunch and they layoff workers. It's no wonder they have a difficult time making ends meet.

The pendulum swings! Hail and farewell! Now these poor bastards have to actually add to the debit side of the coffers.(if they can)

Could cut 2/3rds of the Ohio budget and still find more fat.
Troopers are essential, especially now, while "fat cat" bureaucrats living high on benefits uncommon among the taxpayers are all around this state.
