I lived through this idiot's presidency. It wasn't pretty. He ought to discuss only habitat for humanity subjects since he has no clue on domestic or foreign subjects. Never did, never will.....

Considering that Jimmy was awarded a Nobel peace prize, will BillyJeff Clinton get a 'piece' prize award?

"You are fortunate to have missed the "malaise" of the Carter years: inflation so bad mortgage interest rates were in excess of 15%; unemployment in double digits; the practice of buying as much as possible this week because prices were going up next week; and a pervasive attitude in the US that our best days were over."

I'm only 33.....but I remember Carter's "Misery Index" that they came up with.

Let's see.

When Jimmy was president, Americans were huddled around their 60 degree thermostats, wearing parkas inside the house.

Everyone got up in the middle of the night to sit in their cars, hoping to be one of the lucky few to get gasoline at the gas station. Maybe even a full tank! And traffic went about 45 MPH to stretch the last few gallons of gas.

The news had stories of old people dying of exposure, because they hadn't been able to get heating oil. A number of rare animals died at zoos that couldn't heat the facilities.

Our country was being held hostage by some teenagers in Iran. We attacked with the full force of our military. Iran found out the next day when some shepherd kid found the wreckage out in the desert.

Grocery stores were marking up the prices on their merchanidise 5-6 times before the stuff made it off the shelves. Smart shoppers peeled off the first few layers of price stickers before checking out.

And the President of the United States had to be rescued from an attack rabbit out in the middle of a lake.

And who exactly pays attention to this "leader"?

I don't know. I think it might be very useful to send him on a Peace mission to Baghdad. Say, in about 5 weeks or so. . . .

Don't encourage him -- he may actually try to go.

As a former Commander-in-Chief he certainly knows that our reconaissance is far better than we would ever release in the public forum, so his motive is purely spite. If the enemy knows how well we spy and where our spies have gained access, they can simply adjust their operating procedures appropriately. Maybe he never fully grasped that even when he was in the office of president. He has proven once again that he is an absolute idiot.

Here in Indiana the price of beef skyrocketed. I think it had to do with interest rates causing the farmers to cut back on their herds or something. (I was a young married at the time and not too up on politics and economics).

Anyway, hamburger went from $.29/lb. to $.79/lb. For a grocery budget that was on average $15.00/week, this was astronomical. (Other meat prices increased the same way, not just ground beef.)

So, the major chains started offering cheaper hamburger with soy protein in it to extend it. It made the meat smell rather sour, and was a peculiar gray color. This lasted until Reagan was elected.

I hope someone from the Midwest who remembers this event will explain further.

A quote from Powell earlier this week (following his conversion from dove to hawk), best sums up Carter's position:

"We have seen evidence; I have listed some of it here; we'll be presenting more in the days and weeks ahead." He added that the question is not if there is evidence, but "are we unwilling to acknowledge the evidence because we're unwilling to take the action that the evidence may require us to take."

And we're supposed to care about anyting Carter has to say? Carter who brought us stagflation? Carter who told us to get used to getting by with less, and if we can't find heating oil or gasoline to buy, to wear a sweater and ride a bike? Carter who wanted to weld shut the missle hatches of our nuclear submarines? Carter who gave away the Panama Canal to Red China (indirectly) and our national pride to the sub-human Iranian muslim bastards? Carter, the terminally impotent one-term president from the family of retrograde troglodytes from Georgia? Hah! Zzzzzz.

This coming from the former President who brought us the 1979 Iranian Hostage crisis and the Panama Canal debacle.

Don't forget the deal to pay three billion dollars to Egypt each year in extortion money for not attacking Israel.

Well if Jimmy just goes to Bagdad and gets Saddam to disarm in the next couple of weeks, then war can be avoided. Why isn't he there now?

If there is war, those who encouraged Saddam to fight by supporting his position, as Carter has, are as much to blame as Saddam himself.

A few other things Carter did:
- Cut defense spending; canceled the B-1A bomber; Air Force manning Droped from 900,000 to aprox. 563,000, but kept the Neutron bomb. Spare parts were short supply. The term "hollow force" was coined.

- Gas prices went from 53 cents (regular) to $1 dollar.

- The dollar fell against all major currencies, An example, $1 = 1.40 Deutche Mark.

- Pardoned all Vietnam draft dodgers.

- signed the U.N. Women's Rights Treaty, that still to this day, sits on the Senate RATS shelf waiting for the right moment to be voted into law.
