Poll taken by American Reasearch Group 1/26-1/30, 600 Registered Democratic South Carolina Primary Voters who said they 'would definitely vote.' (possible high poll number, followed by the low total-taking margin for error into account )

Conn. United States Senator Joe Lieberman 26%-18%

Minority House Leader Dick Gephardt 15%-7%

North Carolina United States Senator John Edwards 12%-4%

New York Civil Rights Activist Rev. Al Sharpton 8%-N/A

Former Vermont Governor Howard Dean 6%-N/A

I needed some humor tonight. Actually, for the democRATs, Sharpton is undoubtedly the one they're most worried about. Politically, he's a loose cannon and they're also realizing that apart from that all important black sheeple plantation vote, that Republicans have shown a willingness to crossover and vote to muck up their primaries, a trick which, if I am not mistaken, we learned from them. We don't have a horse in this race so we have nothing at all to lose by doing so and may be able to put ourselves at some advantage. This presents a very complicated problem for the RATus quo and watching them trying to maneuver their way around Al Sharpton and his ego without appearing racist while at the same time putting on the act that they are the party of the "oppressed black folks" and dancing around the many sticky issues that are bound to be generated by the ensuing dynamic should be genuinely entertaining.

I brought up with some black co-workers that Al was running. They didn't see him as a joke. They just thought he wouldn't have a chance because he is an activist. I told them that I intended to vote for him in the primary but that I would vote for Bush in the general election. They totally didn't get it.

Here is what I want to know. If Al got the votes in the primary, are the RATs obligated to to give him the nomination or can they find a way to weasel around the "problem"? What is the liklihood that we will see Al in the debates? In 2000 in the Republican primary, Alan Keyes was a master debater that raised the level of the debate in my opinion and served to reveal all the candidates and what they were made of. Regardless of the final outcome, I would love to see the same thing happen in the RAT primary debates this time around because one thing is certain; say what you will about Al, but he can tapdance circles around these other sock puppets in a debate forum.

Sharpton has a solid, sizable constituency in their party. He might even have stronger appeal with blacks than Jesse Jackson these days. If the Dem leadership tries to sabotage him, he will NOT go down quietly.

Yup,he's been meeting with NAACP community leaders and even more importantly,black ministers ever since the 2002 election cycle began. He had already opened several offices in NC even before the 2002 vote was taken. The local and national media allowed him to do all this without making any mention of it.

Remember, Al Gore couldn't even carry West Virginia in an otherwise close election, a state which has mindlessly voted RATS into office and gone for RATS even during Republican landslides, like the Reagan clobbering of Carter in 1980.
