Peterson tackles rumors, reports

At center, Los Angeles radio station KFI radio personality Ken Chiampou broadcasts live as he and other members of the media go to Scott Peterson's side gate after he arrives home Wednesday afternoon. Peterson later ordered the media off his property.

Peterson tackles rumors, reports

Scott Peterson conducted several televised interviews at his home on Wednesday, address-ing numerous allegations and rumors surrounding the investigation into the disappearance of his wife, Laci.

By 5 p.m., more than a dozen TV trucks had set up camp near the Petersons' house on Covena Avenue in Modesto's La Loma neighborhood.

Wednesday night, Peterson called police when other reporters -- hopeful for an interview -- followed him to his back gate and remained on his property after he told them to leave. Officers arrived, stayed 10 minutes and left, making no arrests.

Peterson declined to be interviewed by The Bee, saying that he was upset with two articles the newspaper had published.

One of the articles described Peterson at a New Year's Eve vigil for his wife, saying he was laughing and smiling a good deal of the time. He did not say what the other story was.

"With the feelings I have about the newspaper right now, I am not interested in talking," Peterson said by phone. "The articles need to have more with Laci in them and not be focused on me."

Laci Peterson's family reported her missing Christmas Eve. The 27-year-old is more than eight months pregnant with her first child.

Scott Peterson, 30, said he last saw his wife at 9:30 a.m. the day before Christmas when he left for a fishing trip and she prepared to go for a walk with their dog.

Police say they have not named Scott Peterson as a suspect, nor have they ruled him out of the investigation.

Wednesday began with the second part of Peterson's videotaped interview on ABC Television's "Good Morning America," with co-host

Diane Sawyer talking not only with Peterson but with his family.

In the interview, Peterson said:

Both he and Laci have $250,000 life insurance policies, taken out two years ago. He called untrue a report that he took out such a policy on his wife only last summer.

His wife may not have opened the drapes Christmas Eve morning because it was probably 40 degrees outside, and keeping the drapes closed helps keep the house warm. Family members and neighbors have said that Laci Peterson opened the drapes every day.

He routinely cuts his hands in his work on farms. Peterson, a fertilizer salesman, made the comment and showed his hands in response to reports that police had found blood in one of his and Laci's vehicles.

He loaded large umbrellas to take to his warehouse on Christmas Eve. A neighbor reportedly saw Peterson putting something into a vehicle that day.

During the interview, Peterson described his marriage as "glorious" even though he admitted to cheating on his pregnant wife. "We took care of each other very well," he said. "She was amazing. She is amazing."

Asked about the baby boy due within weeks, he responded: "That was, it's so hard."

At his home, Peterson sat down with several news outlets. He went through the interviews alone, without an attorney.

Speaking with Gloria Gomez of Sacramento TV station KOVR, Peterson explained why he said he told his wife about his affair with Amber Frey: "It was the right thing to do. And, as you know, when you're not doing the right thing, it eats you up. You know you feel sick to your stomach and you can't function. And you have a hard time, you know, looking at someone."

Throughout Wednesday, people drove and walked by the Peterson house, apparently to get a closer look.

"It's innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," said Elvira Varse, who lives a few streets away. "But he's guilty until he's proven innocent in this neighborhood."

Among the media throng was a pair of shock jocks from a Los Angeles radio station. When Peterson came home, one of them yelled into a megaphone: "Nobody believes your story."

Lyanne Melendez, a reporter with San Francisco radio station KGO, walked up to the shock jocks' radio van and told the DJs: "That's just bad journalism."

One of them responded: "We're not journalists. We're entertainers."

Bee staff photographer Adrian Mendoza contributed to this report.

Then his story is that he took them to the rental storage because it was raining

Wasn't it raining & high winds for the five days previous to the 24th? I thought I read that somewhere, so the reasoning for taking them to storage cause of rain, doesn't make sense! Like do any of his statements?

You can immagine what LE is thanking! He's trying to smooth out the edges of his story and creates another whopper.

But if this was such violent argument why wouldn't she have left and gone to her mother's?? I would think a woman 8 months pregnant would immediately gravitate to her primal source, her mom.

Just maybe she was trying to, but was prevented from doing so .

WEDNESDAY'S CHILD WROTE: "Something has been nagging me since last night's interview with Diane Sawyer. Up until this point, he was about as emotionless as he could be, but when she asked him what he bought for Laci for Christmas, his whole face and attitide changed. He puts on a huge smile and tells how he got her a Louis Vitton (sp?) wallet! He was SO proud! Now, maybe it's just me, but I certainly would have expected a gasp....a sob....or SOME gut wrenching response like " Sob...I got Laci ( sob) a Loius Vitton walletttttt (Sob sob wail) Perhaps I am being overly critical??? nah - I don't think so......."

Two things about it that stood out to me: (1) when Scott was asked about the gift, he said "Oh!" as if he was thinking 'Oh!...that's an easy one...I've got a good answer for that one' before answering. It was as if he had EXPECTED that question and had his predetermined fabricated answer ready for her. Where is the wallet? Is it a male-style wallet or a female-style wallet?

And (2), Scott's "tears" seemed REALLY fake! Most people who get emotional enough to cry in front of others are EMBARASSED and try to sort of hide their embarassment by putting their hand up to wipe their tears...and their eyes get RED from the tears. Scott acted PROUD to be crying (even though he had not cried AT ALL in front of any camera before then). He didn't so much as reach up to dry the tears...he just let them come out and didn't have RED eyes. It was like he was PROUDLY crying on cue! Did anyone else have that observation?

Tick...tick...tick...Tomorrow's the big day. Just think, by tomorrow night, Scott may be plea-bargaining to save his *ss by telling LE where Laci and Connor are. I hope he realizes he'll be better off at the hands of the guy with the needle than he will in prison.

Everything about this guy is strange, from day one. You'd think he'd at least try to act concerned, but he hasn't & those tears haven't fooled anyone. Maybe he was crying cause he had to be on T.V. and not on the golf course!

"There are many times a person will put on a biiiig front while they are having marital problems because they are still trying to keep their marriage together and do not want others to know,as they are hoping it will blow over and things will be back to normal."

That is true..some people are very private... I know someone who kept a huge problem private from the entire family...they could have gotten help and support..but instead kept the secret as long as they could. Once they finally broke the secret...it was revealed their son was a serious addict..and he wound up dying. There was a lot of hurt and anger because the rest of the family members dind't have time and preparation for it like the parents and siblings had..so it was a terrible shock. Everyone wished they could have offered prayers, emotional and spiritual support. I think it was a selfish thing to do..but that is entirely different than average marital problems..

It was an after thought. He realised LATER that it might look suspicious that the umbrellas were missing their bottoms therefore he took the umbrellas at 9.30 (last minute). Remember that it is hard to think EVERYTHING through especially if you are paniced and the crime was not pre meditated.

Ah... so you think he got rid of her the night before THEN took the umbrella's. Sounds more plausable. Besides, an umbrella wouldn't seem to come to mind if one was looking for something to hide a body. (at least not to me)
