My Niece is Scheduled to Have an Abortion Today

Please forgive the vanity.

I received this email from my mom yesterday morning. Amanda is my niece. She is 18 years old and she lives with my parents. She just started college on a full paid academic scholarship:

Hi, Just wanted to fill you in on the latest around here. Miss Amanda is dropping school because she's...............................are you ready................ take a breath....................pregnant. She's going with her boyfriend tomorrow for counseling before having an abortion. His folks told him that unless she has an abortion he can never see her again. She wants him more than anything, so that's probably what she'll do. It's been a bad few days around here. She was going to wait until the end of the quarter (March) to tell us, but she got real sick a few weeks ago and came home. I think part of it was the flu, and part "baby" sickness. She still doesn't feel well. One of the worse things is he won't be 17 until April. So anyway.......I thought I'd give you a little shock to have with your coffee. I'll keep you updated.

Of course, we are stunned. I am really seeking some advice about what I can do or say. My entire family (except for Amanda) is staunchly pro-life. Her mother is beside herself.

Oh, and how about the "His folks told him that unless she has an abortion he can never see her again" thing? How about it pro-choicers? She is being coerced into having an abortion she doesn't really want. She has said (in other correspondence) that she wants to keep the baby. Her "choice" is being made by the father's parents, who want to be spared the embarassment.

She went to see a "counselor" at an abortion clinic yesterday, and they scheduled the "procedure" for today. Of course, the "counselor" at the abortuary is just a salesperson whose job it is to sell abortions.

Anyway, I have run out of options. I have prayed and will continue to do so. I have offered to adopt the baby and have referred her to a wonderful woman who has dedicated her life to finding good homes for children who would otherwise have been aborted, but my niece is not interested. She is ready to have her baby killed to make her boyfriend's parents happy.

I really don't know what else to say. God help us.

If money is important, I will personally offer her $5,000 if she will take this baby to term and give it up for adoption to myself and my wife.

Might want to rephrase this; there are some who would construe your words as a solicitation to commit a crime.

Secondly constantly making statements like murder and dead baby is mental abuse.

Because your post is so deranged and devoid of any knowledge of the matter, I will not waste my time refuting it point by point.

Suffice it to say your ignorance of the situation is total.

My brother-in-law had a drinking problem and was verbally abusive to my niece. My parents have always provided a stable environment for the kids and because of the closeness of their homes they often spent as much time at their grandparents' as at their own home.

A few years ago, because my niece was not getting along with her father, she moved into my parents' home. For Amanda, walking into my parent's house was always like walking into a big hug. She is dearly loved by everyone and they have provided a stable environment and have given her everything she needs or wants. They bought her clothes, a cell phone and a car. She sleeps in my old room.

Amanda is a very sensitive and gifted child. Always socially awkward, she has been the top student in every class since kindergarten. She has been recognized on several occasions as one of the top students in the state, with a strong inclination to math and science. Her ambition was to be a doctor. She began to be courted by several colleges before she graduated high school, and she won a full 4 year scholarship at a university about an hour from my parents' home. She wanted to be close to them.

Her outlook on life and her stability has improved immensely since moving in with her grandparents. She went from being a withdrawn, awkward and bookish teenager into a vivacious and charming young woman. When she met her boyfriend, she became even more confident and pleasant. We all agreed he was good for her and we liked him a lot. He became close to the family. He's also a pretty good guitar player for a 16 year-old kid. He plays a Telecaster, which endeared him to me (I'm a Strat man, myself).

My parents have often commented how similar Amanda and I are. Indeed, she looks a lot like me and her off-the-wall, moody personality and bizaare sense of humor are almost clone-like to my own. She's almost like my twin. That's a problem. I can be stubborn and defiant to the point of absurdity. I see that in my niece. I saw that in her eyes yesterday as the people her love her more than life itself pleaded with her to keep her baby.

Yes she has "been to a gyno appointment." Several. But she and her Romeo refused to wear protection. When her mother tried to get her on the pill, Amanda just said, (direct quote): "Eewww gross" and did not show for the appointment.

I don't think this girl wanted any baby until they started their counseling/propaganda

You should have just quit at "I don't think." She did want to keep the baby. That is one of the first things she told my mom. But, given the choice between keeping the baby or losing Romeo, she chose the latter. It was demonic choice foisted upon her by a cruel and sick set of Nazi-esque parents. Of course, on your twisted a deranged planet, these ghouls are "the only ones sensible in this whole ordeal." That's all I need to know about your values. Kill the baby and destroy some lives to save themselves embarrasment. That is sick.

Amanda is as loved and accepted in my parents' home as any child on the planet. She is the joy of her grandparent's life. She is the queen of their home.

So much for your perverted "house of horrors" statement.

No sorry I don't believe in God. Amanda didn't commit murder. Murder requires malice.

okay but this whole thing will just happen again if she doesn't take birth control seriously. I would get together with the boy's parents and ask them tell amanda and the boy to get on norplant, or the shot if she is too lazy to take pills/patch and they also have to use a condom or else they can't see eachother anymore. She obviously listens to the boy's parents. I'm sure they won't allow the boy to see her anyway until somebody gets serious about bc.

"...and they also have to use a condom or else they can't see each other anymore.

So the girl can be coerced to exercise her "right" to have her baby killed, but the two of them can be told not to get together unless they have the little baloon, but they cannot be disciplined not to see each other, if they have sex.

Seems that sex is quite the ultimate priority in such a scenario, doesn't it? --and avoiding as many consequences as possible is the highest aim.

No one has to believe in God, but inevitably one will have his or her god. What one holds in the highest esteem, is what one will worship.

God bless and winnow and cleanse. God give this queen comfort when she finds herself destitute (however she eventually discovers herself to be). He's always intent to communicate, though we would neglect the very costly message he's given.

Blessings.

Correct. Amanda did not commit murder. The abortion doctor committed the murder. The boy's parents' are also guilty of murder because they hired and paid the killer.

You are in serious denial.

You're probably right, but I have always believed that the real guilty party is the one who commits the abortion--the so-called "doctor." I have always viewed the mothers as victims, for the most part. They have been propagandized and brain-washed to the point where they don't know what they are doing. The abortuary refused to let her see the sonogram. That, I understand, is common procedure. The abortuary knows that if the mother sees the sonogram the chances of them getting their blood money are greatly diminished.

I honestly believe Nazis are less evil.

Unfrigginbelieveable.

If it was my daughter... I'd say if you want him so much that you'll kill your own child you CREATED WITH HIM you'll have to move out and be on your own... like... NOW. When you realize he is not worth it, you can come home. But as much as I love you, if you go through with this, I won't be able to have you live here. It will be too hard on my heart.

Ya gotta point there. But then you hope the girl has the kohones to actually stand up to them and turn away from the murderous choice.

Skooz - I think she's right - if she's willing to choose to murder a baby for a 16 yr old boy she has some seriously screwed up priorities, even if you do love her.

I am always suspicious when I see these "stories" from those that have an agenda to push and have pushed in the past. It may be true but should be taken in perspective of the posters motives.

Sorry about the situation, it sounds like a mess.

But, one thing no one seems to have picked up on: if your niece is 18 and the boyfriend is only 17, don't the boyfriends parent's hold the ultimate weapon over your niece's head:

They could have her arrested for child abuse/statutory rape, if they wanted to, I believe. What is the age of consent in the state where they live?
