Did you love the fact the public supported the Kosovo and Haiti quagmires too?

You veered into something there. If we build a friendly, democracy oriented state of Iraq, the neighboring dictatorships will not be able to hold on.

OPEC will be busted up, and we'll have a free market (and prosperity) again.

If you don't believe me, perhaps you would prefer to read for yourself:

Joint Congressional Resolution on Iraq

In the meantime, save your threats and insults for somebody who might give a crap about your opinion.

"Free drugs for the old, jail for the young. Nice war."

This must be 'selective hearing' and manipulation of the 'message'. I heard none of that. I heard 'liberty and freedom' that only comes with a cost. A plan for medication, help for children of families separated by bars, and liberation of an imprisoned and imperiled Iraqi people.

We both heard a call for 'Peace', and talk is not 'ACTION'!

"Truth often sounds like madness to the ignorant, but then, ignorance is bliss, right?"

It's kind of like stopping with knowledge before you get to wisdom, right? A phenomenon common to public schools and 'broken' homes.(I support 'mentoring', preferably by loving parents.)

Sound asleep or passed out?

Well, that was a pretty stupid post by Darheel. So stupid I had to read all the replies to see if anyone could do better than me.

Well, OhioWFan's observation that she supports the President and her son is shipping off to fight is definitely great.

Borkrules, "Friends don't let friends post drunk" is fun and quite probably also to the point.

And for pithy replies, it's hard to object to Kevin's "I can think of about 3,000 souls who would almost certainly approve had they not had their lives snuffed out in Manhattan on September 11, 2001."

Considered yourself critiically wounded in cyberspace, darheel.

BUMP!

This country has many challenges. We will not deny, we will not ignore, we will not pass along our problems to other Congresses, to other presidents, and other generations. (Applause.) We will confront them with focus and clarity and courage...

Sending Americans into battle is the most profound decision a President can make. The technologies of war have changed; the risks and suffering of war have not. For the brave Americans who bear the risk, no victory is free from sorrow. This nation fights reluctantly, because we know the cost and we dread the days of mourning that always come.

We seek peace. We strive for peace. And sometimes peace must be defended. A future lived at the mercy of terrible threats is no peace at all. If war is forced upon us, we will fight in a just cause and by just means -- sparing, in every way we can, the innocent. And if war is forced upon us, we will fight with the full force and might of the United States military -- and we will prevail. (Applause.)

State of the Union Address by President George W. Bush

BRAVO!

Glad to see the support for war has increased. I hadn't heard that. The reports on NPR sounded pretty negative (boy that's surprising).

I have a comment and a question. The comment is I liked the way Bush turned things around from the inspectors having to find something to Iraq having to disclose. The emphasis was on what Iraq has not done, not on what the inspectors have not done. This emphasis was good. I hope it continues.

The question is, how exactly are the inspectors supposed to help anything? That is, what is their purpose? I don't get it. If they found nothing, that wouldn't help anything. We know Iraq has the weapons. If they find something, that won't help either. Iraq would be forced to something about what they found, but anything found wouldn't even be the tip of the iceberg. I really don't understand at all how the inspectors are supposed to help. What is the alternative to forcibly disarming Iraq?

Free drugs for the old, jail for the young. Nice war. 15 of 19 from Saudi, we attack Iraq. Nice war. 'The poor' receive billions in wasted aid, the orphans get chained to a filthy bed. Nice war. I could go on ad infinitum. I hope 77% approve the war when it comes to them in whatever morph comes next.

If i have to, i'll go get Osama myself. Let's roll.

I've read through all the posts in this thread, but I'd like to revisit your original post, Darheel. I added the second quote (from your Freeper homepage) to illustrate in a more graphic manner the inconsistency you are inserting in your "argument".

BTW - I don't do flame, and I don't really care about others who do. To me it's simply a matter of not being able to express one's opinion coherently enough without trying to tear down someone else.

There were definitely two parts to the SOTU speech last night. First, the President presented his domestic priorities. I don't agree with all of them. But that's the agenda he wants to push.

Engaging in hyperbole like "orphans get chained to a filthy bed", etc., without attribution of the justification for such a rant is nonsense. Further, you also appear to veer ever leftward with your comments about the next "morph" of "the war". If you can't present a better argument, perhaps you should refrain from posting.

As for "15 of 19"... Think back to WWII. When we bombed Germany, which was a more prized target: A barracks full of soldiers, or a weapons plant turning out the arms needed by those soldiers? Which kind of target is Iraq? Which would Saudi be?

Finally, in later posts you responded to others' crass remarks by citing your niece's role in the military. Condescension on that score is garbage. I'm a vet (with my own combat patch). Many others here are, too. God bless your niece for filling her role in the Marines, but don't suppose it gives you any moral authority to post nonsense and have it automatically respected.

My sentiments exactly. I'm sure the entire CBS staff are all just beside themselves they're so mad! And the good news is the more they try to "correct" the situation the more they'll get further in the hole!
