I hope the Republicans use tape of the President's State of The Union Speech in their campaigns. When the President was urging tax cuts and illustrating how an average family making $40,000 per year would lessent their tax liability from about $1050 (round figure) down to $45. At that point they cut to Nancy Pelosi and she was laughing and shaking her head and saying "no, no". The the Republican side rose to their feet in a standing ovation, while the Democrats sat on their hands.
I would love to see the GOP use footage of that part in political ads, with a voice saying, "The President wants to cut taxes and give you the taxpayer your hard earned money back for you to use for your family. This is the Democrat Party's feelings about that" At that point insert the footage of them sitting still with no applause and Nancy Pelosi shaking her head and saying "no, no".
Folks that is $1,000 of taxpayer money back in the hands of its rightful owner to spend and save. Thats a strong image that needs to be shown to taxpayers.

What did Rather, Jennings etc. say about the speech?
Everyone, this is honestly a FANTASTIC excerpt.....read it and put it up on your desktops (notice he did not say "a god", but THE GOD)!!!!! What a BREATHTAKING speech:
"Americans are a resolute people, who have risen to every test of our time. Adversity has revealed the character of our country, to the world, and to ourselves.
America is a strong Nation, and honorable in the use of our strength. We exercise power without conquest, and we sacrifice for the liberty of strangers.
Americans are a free people, who know that freedom is the right of every person and the future of every nation. The liberty we prize is not Americas gift to the world, it is Gods gift to humanity.
We Americans have faith in ourselves - but not in ourselves alone. We do not claim to know all the ways of Providence, yet we can trust in them, placing our confidence in THE loving God behind ALL of life, and ALL of history.
May He guide us now, and may God continue to bless the United States of America."

Ya the tax cut stuff doesn't withstand the empirical reality. But the fact is, that seeming to do nothing, even if nothing is the best policy (over the long term, in the short term, it would give a short term boost), in the face of a soft economy for reasons beyond the control of mere governments, is political suicide. Thus I give him a bye.

What is so refreashing about Bush is that he says what me means, and means what he says. He is a man without artifice. One can disagree with him about various issues, as I do (social security, some aspects of his tax cut, etc), but he lays his cards on the table face up. That is all I can ask of a leader, as long as on fundamental issues I don't think the policies traduce our future.Something this country hasn't seen in a leader since...well?
And he knows evil when he sees it, and will not compromise with it...
Bump for my President.

"LOL! 'Since when have the terrorists put us on notice?'"Wasn't that great? Bottom line common sense, cutting through all the nonsense from the left.

i've seen and talked with some of the kuwaitis he did it to, such as the old man whose knees are
fused after iraqi soldiers went at them with an electric drill. and others to whom they did worse. of course, for every survivor there were several who did not survive.

I was listening to the speech on the drive home from Boston.
The tone of it made me believe that at any minute he was going to stop and say:
These are the things I believe are right and just and I'm going to do them and if that means I can't get re-elected, well that's life in the big city.
The guy has a center, he believes in good and evil, right and wrong and he walks his Christian talk. My kinda guy.
I don't always agree with him but I sure the hell like the guy.

"I've never seen Hitlary look more glum.. then just now"There was one time when she not only looked just as depressed but also confused -- when all those Jews in NYC threw toilet seats at her and raised such a ruckus that she was forced off the stage and retreated from the rally. That was priceless!

LOL, I'm glad to see you added the
Anti part!
I've had tons of suggestions about what I should have done with this name, but the one that I'll never understand is when I was chided for using Ms. instead of Miss or Mrs. Someone just didn't get it. lol.

Quite frankly, they got away from us........LOL.
We're going to do some remedial work and get it right next time.
Actually, we tried to lock the threads and separate them into before, during, and after.
