January 28, 2003 -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday she called Martha Stewart about a year ago to offer her support.

"It was just simply a call of friendship and support, about a year ago," Clinton said.

Stewart tells The New Yorker this week that as news of a federal probe into her ImClone stock deal emerged, Clinton "was one of the first people to call me . . . and very nicely say, 'You know, you just have to hang in there. It's the process.' "
