The first ever Miss Germany with ginger hair says she's delighted at proving her doubters wrong.
Critics had argued Babett Konau's hair colour would stop the 24-year-old from winning the title.
She said her victory, ironically in the German town of Rust, proved being ginger was not an obstacle to becoming a beauty queen.
The dental assistant, from Schleswig Holstein, said: "It's a really nice feeling to know you can win - even with red hair."
Ms Konau has yet to decide whether she will continue working as a dental assistant, but added: "I hope I stay exactly how I am."
She beat 21 other competitors to the Miss Germany crown - winning a car and a trip to Egypt.
Miss North Rhine-Westphalia, Natalia Topmann, came second and Bavaria's Laura Mueller was third.
Miss Germany will now go forward to compete for the Miss World contest in November.
She is also forbidden from marrying or posing nude while she holds the crown.

Red or Dead! That's what I say.
And that girl is beautiful?
What's with those German's always seeking out an Arian race?
Not that there's anything wrong with blondes either.
I've been blonde, and red.
I'm thinking perhaps 'pink' at my next trip to the salon! :-)

She does not have to hold the crown while she is nude, so says the Clintonian logic.

Redheads=Celts=many ancient "German" tribes NOT in my tribe! I'm (currently) redhead (but come from a long line of natural reds!) and I'm a Celt (to my fibre). There ain't NO German in THESE O'Connor veins!!!!

Real redheads wrinkle early. She may be a real redhead but it doesn't look real from here.
Remember that old bumpersticker:
This car stops for blonds and brunettes and backs up ten feet for redheads.

We need more time for the inspections to work.

While my job as Other King of the Universe (apart from that God guy) gives me ample responsibilities (selling people's names to telemarketers, assigning jury duty to single mothers and multiple other tasks) I am pleased to announce that I will be relieving
everyone on the inspection team so that Miss Germany and myself can inspect my hottub together. Most happily,
The Other King of the Universe

Facts About Redheads The highest percentage of natural redheads in the world is in Scotland (13%), followed closely by Ireland with 10%. In the US, about 2% of the population are natural redheads.
The country name of Russia means "land of reds" in honor of a redheaded Viking by the name of Rurik.
Archaeological digs in the Chinese desert of Takla Makan found mummified redheads dating back 3,000 years. ( The Han Chinese emperors had redheaded 'magic men.')
Adults have about 120,000 hairs on their head; redheads have fewer, blondes have more, brunettes have the most.
Redheadedness is, genetically speaking, a recessive trait. It may appear after several generations of darker hair.
Redheads don't turn grey. Red hair turned sandy, then white.

The colour of her hair doesn't bother me darling...what I find disconcerting is that her smile is forced...like someone plugged her into an electric socket and threw a switch. ;)

The gene for red hair has, evidently, been around for a long time. It is probably older than those for black, blonde, brown, and other hair colors.
The is a considerable argument whether Neanderthal Man was in the Sapiens line. So it is hard to say the red-head gene dates to Neandethals. Maybe it predates both the Sapiens and Neanderthal lines, as evidenced by Pongo pygmaeus, the "Wild Man of Borneo" (the Orang Utan).

There are SO many redheads in my family, it's like we don't understand any other colour! *LOL* So I can understand THIS statistic. BTW, is it any coincidence that the high percentage of redheads being Scots and Irish, could also lend itself to the theory that redheads are 'fiesty'? ;-)

"Fraulein Deutschland," perhaps?

"Neanderthals = Conservatives " Neanderthals had/have (depending on your perspective) almost 30% larger brains than Homo-sapiens. A scientific fact. An interesting book on the subject by Paul Jordan, is intitled NEANDERTHAL : NEANDERTHAL MAN AND THE STORY OF HUMAN ORIGINS. In it, Jordan proposes that the Neanderthal didn't exactly die out, but was assimilated into the homo-sapient spieces. Food for thought.

"Redheadedness" is common in several ethnicities. Besides the Scots-Irish connection you mentioned, and the reference to Germanic tribes, you can add the area of Galacia, northwest Spain. The freckled redheads of Galacia may be due, in part, to a gene poll which included Celtic wayfarers from centuries past.
