Sen. Clinton downplays phone call to Martha Stewart

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was only making a phone call to a friend when she spoke to embattled domesticity diva Martha Stewart, the senator's spokeswoman said Monday.

Stewart, in an interview with the New Yorker magazine, said she has received support from Clinton as the home decorating queen tries to fend off a federal probe into whether she traded on insider information when she sold shares in ImClone System Inc.

In the article, Stewart says she has received encouragement from Clinton, who has faced down a number of federal investigations.

"She was one of the first poeple to call me ... and very nicely say, 'You know, you just have to hang in there. It's the process,"' Stewart told the magazine.

Clinton spokeswoman Karen Dunn would not characterize the phone conversation, or say whether the senator was supportive of Stewart.

Clinton "made a phone call to a friend and has not commented on the ongoing investigation," said Dunn, who said the conversation was brief.

"I wouldn't say either way about the contents of the call," Dunn said.

Picture the media frenzy if GWB had called Enron's Ken Lay to offer 'support'.

Martha has given mucho bucks to Hillary & the DNC....but the media ignores that connection.

Why is it that Hillary never answers charges like this personally, but always has a spokesperson do the dirty work?

Lemme get this straight. Hillary has lied to the American people, obstructed justice, abused FBI files, lied under oath, fired Travel employees improperly, kissed a terrorist's wife, supported pardons for terrorists, refused to answer open questions while campaigning for the Senate, helped her husband abuse the pardon process to get votes, and the AP finally wakes up and pursues a Hillary story because she called Martha Stewart?

Well, it looks like she found her PHONE RECORDS a lot fast than she found her other records, doesn't it?

As an aside, and just between the three of us, can either of you give me a number -- a ballpark figure will do -- of ALL the family and friends that you personally know who have been involved in as many situations of lying, graft, etc., as the Clintons friends have been involved in?

And, if I may have a follow-up, can you name ANY of the Clintons' friend who haven't been?

Why would Martha let this be known? A cry for help?

It does not surprise me the phone call happened, what is surprising that Martha talked about it.

Maybe so, but when did she and Hilary become buddies? Isn't Martha the epitomy of the "wealthy" "corporate America" that Dems claim are ripping off the "people"? Isn't selling your stock on the eve of bad news a major part of the dreaded Enron scenarion? Funny, I think GWB said "hello" to some of the corporate scandal guys by putting them in handcuffs. I can see now that Hilary is a "compassionate communist."

FWIW, Ms. Stewart "rose to be one of the most powerful women" largely on her alimony money.

'You know, you just have to hang in there. It's the process,"' Stewart told the magazine. The most intelligent woman in the universe just can't utter a sentence without the phrase "you know." Hard to criticize the dudes who start each sentence with "dude."

All of you self-righteous, goody-two shoers who will undoubtedly slam me on this ...I DON'T CARE.

"Goody two-shoers”?

If living within the limits of the law makes me a goody-two shoer then fine.

We live in a nation of laws.

Those who condone, make excuses, or try to rationalize in any way the breaking of those laws are no better than the lawbreakers themselves.

I see where you fit in.

And Martha is SCUM, SCUM of the worst kind, as is her friend the Hildabeast.

Sounds like excellent presidental material for the democRATic party.

Maybe, but "if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas". You know that HRC will never pay for her wrongdoing, but Martha will. Hillary will not comment on her phone call. She would abandon Martha in a NY minute. Already has.

LOL! It's like during the OJ trial--I had to ask a supporter of his, "OK, so how much blood do you have in YOUR car? Ballpark, I mean..."

Regardless of one's disdain for Martha Stewart and whether you though it improper for Hitlery to contact her, I think this denial is so much more telling.

She will not stand by her friends and in fact will dishonor her friendships if she feels any political peril (I assume lefties went nuts over this).

I mean, really! I cannot name ONE person -- well, ONE -- but nobody else.

And EVERYBODY they know has been involved in some sort of scandal! Literally everybody! And she looks down her nose at us?

Two words: Plea Bargin

Considering that Waksal and the brokers at Merrill all copped pleas, this is not out of the relm of possibility. Something to think about...

I wonder if Martha is issuing a veiled threat to Hillary through the media. This is an old trick of the Clintonistas, remember.

I mean, why would Martha bring up this phone call, unless she wanted to get the message out that she has records of certain phone calls?

Gee, we barely got the Ritter thing settled, and now we have to work on Martha! And all this while there is a war about to commence!

And people want to know why I don't get the ironing done...hmph!
