WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was only making a phone call to a friend when she spoke to embattled domesticity diva Martha Stewart, the senator's spokeswoman said Monday.
Stewart, in an interview with the New Yorker magazine, said she has received support from Clinton as the home decorating queen tries to fend off a federal probe into whether she traded on insider information when she sold shares in ImClone System Inc.
In the article, Stewart says she has received encouragement from Clinton, who has faced down a number of federal investigations.
"She was one of the first poeple to call me ... and very nicely say, 'You know, you just have to hang in there. It's the process,"' Stewart told the magazine.
Clinton spokeswoman Karen Dunn would not characterize the phone conversation, or say whether the senator was supportive of Stewart.
Clinton "made a phone call to a friend and has not commented on the ongoing investigation," said Dunn, who said the conversation was brief.
"I wouldn't say either way about the contents of the call," Dunn said.

She won't even "comment" on the weather. And that's why she'll get the 2004 nod from the dems. (As long as the wind is right).

The tick tock of this, of course, is that when it all blows over, down the road, hillary who understands graft, breaking the rule of law and the absolute importance of always doing the 'under the table' thing whenever possible, wants MONEY from ol rich Martha in the future.

What did Hillary know and when did she know it?
We need to know all the facts - sooner rather than later.
Did Hillary ever talk to or meet with Martha about this any other times?
Was there a cigar involved?

How appropriate, hmm, wonder if they swapped stories (cattle futures and imclone, maybe they gave each other investing tips).

Just a kind reminder that fundraising is a vital way to get your voice heard over important matters which may effect you. If the phone rings and it's Hillary, it just cost you a few hundred grand. Talk about dialing collect?????

"...And for heaven's sake Martha, next time you want to profit from trading on inside information, call me first and I'll tell you how I got away with it."

Martha Stewart is not scum. She's a woman who rose to be one of the most powerful women giving people in America a service they wanted. You may not like her, but to put her in the same category as Hillary Clinton, who basically slept her way to the top is truly an injustice. And for the record, if I got a phone call in the middle of the night from a friend who worked at a company and told me to sell my stock in the morning, I would. What she did is not a monsterous act. It's actually human. She got caught. OK, give her the fine and LET IT GO. All of you self-righteous, goody-two shoers who will undoubtedly slam me on this ...I DON'T CARE.
