I had to read a lot of Noam Chomsky when I was in school, but that was all linguistics. His political tripe was never assigned in any classes I had. But his influence on other students and nearly all the faculty was unmistakeable.

OK, maybe you can answer this. I've heard his stuff in linguistics is no more complicated than Venn diagrams. Is it really impressive to somebody who knows any math at all?
