That is the sum already spent on the war on poverty (LBJ's great society.) Lets call it even and move on.

re: We had to throw Cherokees, Scotsman, and Irish into the mix.)))
Don't forget that the Cherokee took a lot of Federal scalps in the Civil War...add that to your very entertaining list of complications!

Are reparations taxable?.....

Right you are.
How about some serious reparations to Mexico for all the land we took, i.e. California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona?
They could use the money.
Cheers.

Donahue's "...highly acclaimed show..."
Well now, this is news.
To: RGrizzle
Neal Boortz was on the show in question. He walked off. For those who saw the show and don't know why, read the link below.
Why I walked off Donahue

You can exclude me!
My grandparents immigrated in 1923 to escape the attrocities in the Baltics.
If anything, someone owes me big time.HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!

I have my checkbook ready. They'll just have to get through my front door to get it. I'd say "their" risk is high, but of course I welcome them to try. I'll be waiting!

Everybody's ancestors were oppressed by AND benefited from slavery at one time or another. Nobody owes anybody anything if they had nothing to do with it.

Following up on your comment, my Hugenot ancestors in Paris were subject to being thrown off cathedral towers and into the streets. Recognizing that this was a serious risk to their health, they came to Tennessee. The way I figure it, the Frogs owe me $43,000 in reparations, plus an apology for being French. When do I get on Donahue (is he still on the air? Isn't that Ventura guy taking his place?)? I won't hold my breath, however.

Lastest UPI column, "Ping-Pong Reporting," is now up on FR.
Lastest book(let): "to Restore Trust in America."

Well you can count me out. My family came over to Ellis Island from Italy in the late 1800's. I am not paying one thin dime in reparations - It's nothing but Greed Greed Greed!

I've changed my mind about reparations. With a Scottish last name, and living in East Tennessee, I am sure I am descended from those Scotsman enslaved in North Georgia. Can I buy that big screen now, or should I wait for my check?
Actually, what I am considering doing is to start checking 'African-American' any time I fill out a form with one of those boxes. Don't let my pasty white skin and light brown hair fool you. "No, really. I'm black. Of course I can't prove it, they didn't keep records of my slave ancestors." We'll just all claim to be descendants of slaves, and we'll each owe ourselves 43 grand.
To: RGrizzle
However, my apathy ceased when the champion of all liberal causes, Phil Donahue, presented the case for Reparations on his highly acclaimed show on the cable news network MSNBC.
You lost me with your second sentence. Highly acclaimed by whom, exactly?

My ancestors were too poor to have slaves. In fact, although my Great Grandad is caucasion and from Ireland he was so poor they made him a slave. He stowed away on a ship from Ireland when he was 11. When they arrived in America, they found him and sold him as a slave to pay for his free ride.
Does this mean I get $43,000 too?
