"It is important to maintain the separation of church and state. I've always done that, and I will continue to do so," Kennedy said. "It's part of the oath every senator takes, to defend the Constitution."

"As a Catholic, I have enormous respect for the words and teachings of the Vatican," Kerry said. "[But] I represent all the people of Massachusetts, and they expect me to speak with respect for all of their views and values."

A word to the wise: "remember death."

I represent all the people of Massachusetts, and they expect me to speak with respect for all of their views and values.

Isn't Kerry's statement mendacious on its face? I represents me (I live in Mass.) and I want my taxes lowered, and I want Iraq attacked. But he opposes these things and is not shy about saying so. In what way does he speak with respect for my views on these 2 issues? He doesn't. He just does what HE thinks is right. And that's OK -- that's what a representative form of government is all about.

But when it comes to abortion, Kerry supports it -- but doesn't want to explicitly spit in the Pope's face. So he hides behind "the will of the people". It's like his own opinions don't enter into the matter, he just has to represent the people. He's a coward. And dishonest.
