IMO, they are only "Catholic" in as far as it is politically convenient. About the same as when they say they love this country. Or Holy Joe when he asks you if he told you he is Jewish etc, etc.

Oh, I see the ol *separation of church and state* clause....if these Catholics can't be true to their faith, how can we believe anything they say.

"This is the way it is. This is the law of the church," Brown concluded. "Please obey the law or don't call yourself Catholic." AMEN!

The role of an elected representative is to do what is best for the community they represent - which is not always the same as what the community wants.
If being a legislator was about doing what is most popular, then our Constitution would cut out the middleman and do everything by referenda.
Any Catholic legislator should know that defending the smallest and most innocent members of the community from brutalization, torture and death is in the best interests of the community.
Kerry, Kennedy, et al. will have much to answer for.

that is great! i saw Leahy at a Mass at St Anthony's parish in VA once. i also saw Kennedy at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception when my kindergartener's class was there on a field trip. Both times i was expecting to see a fireball descend from the sky to strike them in front of my very eyes.

"It is important to maintain the separation of church and state. I've always done that, and I will continue to do so," Kennedy said. "It's part of the oath every senator takes, to defend the Constitution.""As a Catholic, I have enormous respect for the words and teachings of the Vatican," Kerry said. "[But] I represent all the people of Massachusetts, and they expect me to speak with respect for all of their views and values."
A word to the wise: "remember death."

"If you have chosen to favor abortion because the people of your state expect that of you," Brown challenged Kerry, "then, please, no longer call yourself Catholic." Can you give me Hallelujah, brothers.....

I represent all the people of Massachusetts, and they expect me to speak with respect for all of their views and values. Isn't Kerry's statement mendacious on its face? I represents me (I live in Mass.) and I want my taxes lowered, and I want Iraq attacked. But he opposes these things and is not shy about saying so. In what way does he speak with respect for my views on these 2 issues? He doesn't. He just does what HE thinks is right. And that's OK -- that's what a representative form of government is all about.
But when it comes to abortion, Kerry supports it -- but doesn't want to explicitly spit in the Pope's face. So he hides behind "the will of the people". It's like his own opinions don't enter into the matter, he just has to represent the people. He's a coward. And dishonest.

President Kennedy stated that no elected official should be "limited or conditioned by any religious oath, ritual, or obligation," Sen. Edward Kennedy said. "I continue to agree with the clear position taken by President Kennedy." I don't mean to downplay the tragedy of the JFK assasination, but it DID happen about 40 years ago. It's way past time for the Senator, and all other assorted Kennedy's, to quit digging him up and hauling him around for political gain.
You're a big boy, now, Teddy. No pun intended. You can either stand or fall on your own merit.

I wonder if their priests give them Communion??? Of course there are priests who give them Communion. Heck, Bill Clinton got Communion anytime he attended Mass in Little Rock. Fr. Paul Marx wrote about it in one of his books. Bill and Hillary, even though they are not Roman Catholics, recieved Communion when they were in Africa. Supposedly, they got permission from one of their "Catholic" staffers.

I need educating, please. Are non-Catholics not permitted to participate in Communion? I'm not Catholic, but I have taken Communion at a Midnight Mass.
In that case the host was blessed by the priest, but was actually distributed by nuns located at numerous locations in the auditorium.
Did I unintentionally cross a line?

Kerry and Daschle are both DIVORCED and REMARRIED (which is the adultery part)...I wonder if their priests give them Communion??? It's all of one piece, and the sex-crisis in the Church is part of that same piece. The anything-goes nonjudgmentalism of post-Christian society has infested the American Catholic Church to the point where the most ardent supporters of lifestyle libertarianism are self-identified Catholics, many with expensive Church-subsidized educations.
