Yes, I agree. Canada has been in this process of liberalization/Balkanization for a number of years, and I say they can keep it up there. We don't want their pampered undocumented terrorists, lack of representation, or reliance on US to get them out of a jam (while they sneer at us). I'd make an exception for Alberta if they make a clean break.
I think Sam Adams said it best in the days of the Revolution:
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands that feed you. May your chains be set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget you were our countrymen."

Hey, Mark. C'mere a second.
Any chance we could make a few covert overtures to Alberta and B.C.? You know--on the sly?

"the differences between the two are likely to increase"Sadly, this is quite possible. If Europe falls--to Islam--it will become clear whether Canada is part of Europe or the U.S.
When Europe falls, "the U.S. cavalry won't be riding to the rescue". There are already too many crosses row on row, in Flanders' fields.
To: JohnHuang2
too many crossesAnd they are unlikely to remain standing anyway as the dark night of Islam descends over The Continent.

Within 48 hours of 9/11, it was clear that Canada had a choice: It could be inside a North American perimeter or outside a U.S. perimeter. Given that the trucks were mostly backed up on the northern side of the border, the answer seemed obvious. But the siren song of "Canadian values" -- i.e., Liberal Party values -- was too powerful This sums it up perfectly.

Been saying it all along-canada is not even a real country.
Americans have no interest in diluting either sovereignty or democratic accountability in transnational bodies...were it only the case, giving up language, border, and culture to illegals.

English and French Canada can't even agree on the meaning of Canada.
To: petuniasevan
great Sam Adams quote. They should put it on the beer bottles.
I thought Mark Steyn was English? He's so right in this article. We like canada a lot, but they're too pc. We already have a number of pc states, don't need any more. Maybe California can join Canada?

Canada's a real country, come on. The Quebec french are out of step, but Canada's a real country. Peurto Rico is part of america, they speak spanish only there and discriminate against english, and we have predominantly spanish speaking places in california, arizona and texas. Some in the southwest want to secede from the US just like Quebec wants to break off. but we consider ourselves a country.
canada's a great country.

Sure... if you love the European style cradle to grave welfare state Pierre Elliot Trudeau and Jean Chretien have bequeathed to you.

Why doesn't Canada just copy our Constitution, put limits on government, expand individual freedom (capitalism) and turn itself around (they have a wealth of natural resources)? Why?...SOCIALISM...and all it's accompanying parasites.

Probably for the same reasons we ignore our constitution, remove limits from government, shrink individual freedom and move ever deeper into Socialism.

As I wrote a year ago, "One of the lessons of September 11th is that every day millions of people wear baseball caps, listen to Britney, watch Friends, eat at Dunkin' Donuts ... and they don't have a clue about America."
Unfortunately, many of these people are American.

Agreed. At least WE are fighting the fight. They never had an ideal/hierarchy to fight for. Their root cause can be traced to their flawed concept of self-governance.
