Could you define "feeding frenzy"?
There are people who know if it was blackmail, and we might find out someday. It is not futile to speculate this, and more importantly, the possibility of blackmail makes these two episodes very relevant.
Word has it Scotty went to meet the 14 yr old
and it turned out to be Bob Beckel. :^)
Easy as pie. His "weakness" in this case has landed him in trouble with the law, and somewhat mysteriously the charges against him have been dismissed, the case sealed. And, strangely enough, his attitude toward Iraq has changed dramatically; it is now the exact opposite of what it was prior to those events.
His credibility is in question because the very real possibility of blackmail exists.
I think that it's either another case of blackmail or it was done as a political favor. My guess is that this is a DNC/Hillary operation.
The court is saying: put this behind you and it is forgotten.
So, what do you make of the DA firing Cynthia Preiser for her work?
The arrest of Scott Ritter, 41, who served as a weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991-98, was first reported by The Daily Gazette of Schenectady on Saturday.
One question I still have not seen answered:
What caused a reporter from The Daily Gazette of Schenectady to revisit an old story from a year-and-a-half ago ask the DA about it?
Legitimate: She apparently approved the deal without his approval; yet she should have known any case beyond the normal (here el Ritar had recently been caught in a sting and warned) must be kicked upstairs.
Illegitimate: He was a public figure whose prosecution could have built the DA's public exposure --> name recognition --> politcal future.
If she had been my ADA, I would have dismissed her (for both reasons).
Hmm. I disagree with you that a 40 year-old man going after a 14 year-old girl is a "peccadello". We obviously have different definitions of "peccadello". And, yes, this story is important enough to use to bury Ritter since he has called for the impeachment of the President and has been (until now) a media player in a critical national security debate.
Ritter is toast. It is time for him to go away. And he must be smacked across the face with this story until he does go away.

The DA found out about the case and fired the ADA, Cynthia Preiser over it. The original stories placed the firing at "last week", so I'm not sure of the day, but perhaps a reporter raised an eyebrow as I wouldn't think assistant district attorneys are fired over just any old thing, and looked into it and the story came out from there.
Now, I'd like to know what brought it to the DA's attention...
Well, I practice in Pennsylvania so I don't know what their particular procedures might require, but what I understood happened (and what would have happened in PA) is that the offense was adjudicated, the appropriate time period passed, the matter was dropped and sealed, and it is now closed and sealed.
In Pennsylvania, as in the case of a minor, for instance, if six months probationary counseling are completed and there is no further criminal offense, the matter is dropped, a petition for expungement is filed and the court is subject to a 'shall issue' rule at that point.
If the paperwork is processed properly, the case is expunged from the record.
Obviously, it was a tip from someone who had seen the sealed records....
