My sister-in-law's ex-husband is one of the protesters in DC. Sister in law allowed her 16 year old son to accompany her ex to the protest. This makes me so angry - I have fumed about it all day. Her reasoning is that "he is a minority as he is Hispanic, and minorities should oppose the war", so she let the kid go. How can anyone be so stupid? She's teaching him to have no respect for his president and his country. I have lurked here for years, but I need to vent, so I am posting for the first time.

TexasQ - thank you for being here and thank you for venting.

I don't understand your sister-in-law's thinking: Why should minorities oppose the war? Look at how Saddam Hussein treats minorities and women in his own country.

I work with many retired military people who happen to be minorities (African-American and Hispanic). They love this country, and they speak fondly of the years they spent in the military.

I am sorry about your nephew-in-law. Well, at least he did walk past us Freepers holding American Flags when he got the Marine Barracks. So he saw us too.

He's lucky to have someone who cares about teaching him about respect. It's great that you do.

(and welcome to Free Republic posting)
