Sandstrom defended his city of 56,000 against Kerry's verbal assault, saying, "It's a place that you'll find America's values still intact right to the core. I would hope that (Kerry) is going to be talking about some of those American values as he tries to convince people that he ought to be the leader of the free world."
That's why Kerry hates the place.

"Liberals" hate the American Heartland. And for good reason. It stands for
everything they
hate: Liberalism (in the true sense of the word), liberty, justice for all, moral and strategic clarity, Western Civilization, and America in its ascendancy.
No wonder that "Liberals", who worship at the shrine of decandence and The Fall of the West, hate going to places like Iowa and Texas! They hate America. Of course they hate the Heartland--America at its healthiest, most energetic, and best--Bush Country!

I defy you to show me any mention of this story in the old timee, ultra-left wing, liberal media! They hold these dems to a much different standard and would not mention a lefty's stereotyping or negative comments about a section of the country, whether spoken yeasterday or ten years ago, no matter what.
This story is dead and you'll never see it mentioned anywhere but here and Drudge.

Kerry is almost finished already, the only thing that keeps him credible is his wife's $600 million bank account.

What the fly on the wall reportedly heard...
"I hate going to places like Austin and Dubuque to raise large sums of money [since it's so much easier to put on the french maid's outfit that my wife likes me to wear and spend the day polishing her nails. After that, she whips me a little and if I've been a very good bad-boy, she'll cut a check that makes the sod-busters in flyoverland look like welfare queens]. But I have to [because the sheep like to think they can mingle with royalty and the networks need that kind of tripe for the daily campaign spots]."

Shows what he knows! Dubuque, Iowa is a very pretty place and enjoyable to visit, if you aren't obsessed with power and money. Then again, I can see why a 'Rat would hate it, after all.

John Kerry should not have gone off about Dubuque quite so harshly, as that region has adhered to largely Democrat politics since even before FDR. In fact, all the Mississippi River towns were solidly Democrat, through the Kennedy years, and even during LBJ, and of course during the Carter years and the regime of the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001". Kerry loses Dubuque, he loses a substantial portion of whatever support he may have in Iowa.
Cuffing elitists.

Gives me my chance at at little travelogue. Possibly off topic, but I will take a chance. 1995 I went with liberal spouse on a little trip to the heartland. Yep, by chance hit Dubuque. Found a great place up on a hill to stay. Were informed by mine host, we could have a suite that the Vice-President of the USA and his wife used. I think VP Bob Dole .
Were told it wasnt a sumptious place though, because the VP wanted to avoid the Press. Apparently the press swarmed the luxury places down town, looking for him. Oh yeah, only $38 and it was luxury to us. I know I am pushing it a little though on this post. Excellent museum on the waterfront. Great scenic ride on a sort of hill/type ski lift.
We learned that Dubuque's pride is one Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway of Star Trek). Got her biography when in Dubuque. Oh, one more thing- took the wrong road out and went to East Dubuque, Illinois- more good old American hospitality. Never, never knock anyone's home town, says I - bad policy.

Weird article. Iowa City and Dubuque are not the same place, nor are they terribly similar.
Iowa City is actually a little liberal enclave dominated by the University of Iowa, and the associated campus liberal silliness. Dubuque is a blue-collar river town in a different part of the state.
I've never heard of someone from Dubuque being offended by someone putting down Iowa City before.

Maybe he'll like it better if he goes there to raise small sums of money.
