Peterson eyed for link to missing student

San Luis Obispo detectives are looking at Scott Peterson in connection with the disappearance of a college student nearly seven years ago.

Peterson, husband of Laci Peterson, went to Cal Poly at the same time as Kristin Smart, who disappeared May 25, 1996.

Well, Peterson told police he took that little boat to Berkely Bay to fish for sturgeon which are 5 feet long and weigh 100 pounds. This Peterson does everything big.

And do you remember what one of the police officers said in one of the news articles, "If you knew what we knew, you'd understand why we're searching where we're searching."

There really is a hole in this theory and that is that in order for him to collect the insurance money, there has to be proof of a death. Why would he dispose of the body in a way that she would never be found if he needs her body to be found in order to get the insurance money?

His original plan did not include getting rid of the body. As time went on became convinced that perfect murders are those without a body. And he never cancelled the insurance since this would also raise red flags

I think this is the reason police have kept what they know close to their chests and let this guy keep talking as long as they could. This guy has the typical criminal mentality that he thinks he's real smart and is putting one over on everybody while police have enough information to see through everything he's said.

I saw a report during the night on MSNBC that said police found blood in Laci's kitchen & suspected it was hers. It's yet to be determined, but sounds rather conclusive to me that Laci is indeed dead & that Scott murdered her on the night of the 23rd.

I'd like to know what Laci and her mother talked about in that last phone conversation. Laci may have mentioned problems or suspicions having to do with Scott.

I was thinking along those lines, too. Scott Peterson may be a serial killer. The cement mixing for "anchors" threw up a red flag for me. Scott may be well-practised in the art of disposing of inconvenient women.

Remember it was reported that he ditched a golf scholarship at U of Arizona and returned home, without explanation, after just six mnths? What girls went missing from U of A during that time period?

There are many young women missing in the Modesto area. Maybe several crimes will be solved in that area if Scott can be made to talk.

He reminds me so much of Richard Marc Evonitz, SK of young girls. Same height, weight, body type, swarthy looks. Evonitz also left his victims in bodies of water, knowing that DNA and other evidence would be washed away.

Hi,first time poster, long time reader. Scott went to a city college after leaving ASU, then on to Cal Poly, where on Alt-True Crime there is now discussion that Fox News is reporting that he dated the missing girl from 8 years ago.

Btw, the insurance thing doesn't bother me as much, in that once Laci became pregnant, if anything should have gone wrong (in the normal sense of wrong)and she died but the baby survived, it makes sense to cover a mother. There would be child care expenses for the surviving father and so on. In reality, 250,000.00 is not really that much especially in CA.

Creative story but most fisherman know they would lose a 100 pound fish if their boat was firmly archored at the time. It's better to let the boat get pulled along by the fish and wear itself out. If you're anchored the fish might break the line.

Over at www.westmarine.com you can buy a very good anchor to hold a 14 ft. aluminum boat in the bay for as cheap as $10. A danforth anchor is light and easy to work with, and will do a fine job. I've never known any fisherman on the bay to use a homemade concrete anchor.

Seriously, the news of girlfriend and insurance policy on Laci puts Scott squarely on the probable killer list.

Would the expenses be less if he died? His policy was only for $25,000.-- Laci would have had to make do with $225,000.-less than what SP would have received.Childbirth and pregnancy is of no greater risk than his travels on the freeways these days. Laci staying at home is supposed to a safer environment than out on the road. The inequity of the amounts is troubling, IMO.

Over Christmas break I was listening to Glenn Beck and he said he is divorced, remarried, and his ex-wife had the kids for Xmas. He sounded so sad. I went into my 20 year old daughter's room and told her "Thank you for not being strung out on drugs, pregnant, in jail, etc. Thank you for coming home for Xmas." She answered, "Thank you for not getting divorced!"

Probably depends on the circumstances. If there is a pretty good chance the person is murdered, maybe they can declare it sooner?

There was a thief working in our neighborhood many years ago. The way he was caught was that a retired neighbor noticed the drapes being closed in a house across the street, and he knew the owners worked and no one should be home during the day. He called 911 and the thief was caught. All that took was one alert neighbor.

Sherlock, I agree completely, this guy is a total monster, a sociopath. I'm beginning to think this was not a sudden event that escalated, which was my first belief. I've always thought whatever happened on the 23rd, after Laci talked with her Mother and family on the phone. The "drapes" people are referring too are really rattan-like blinds that would be pulled up, there is a good web site maintained with pictures:

On the insurance, if she is never found, he could collect by having her declared dead in 7 years in most states, depends on the CA law.

Here's what I hate to think: Scott is in the fertilizer business, therefore he has access to all kinds of chemicals in his line of work and at his storage location. There are ways to speed up decomposition of bodies which he no doubt has knowledge of, and he could literally be waiting, needing a certain amount of time to be sure all trace evidence is gone from her body; then, a tip could arrive and with dental or other information, she will be identified, and he is "scott free".
