MODESTO, Calif. (AP) - The husband of a missing pregnant woman may have lied about his relationship with a girlfriend and possibly other things, a spokeswoman for the family said Friday.
Kim Petersen, a spokeswoman for relatives of Laci Peterson, 27, of Modesto, said police have shown the family recent photographs of Scott Peterson with a girlfriend. The husband had previously denied such a relationship, the family said.
"Now, however, they believe he has lied to them about this, and possibly other things as well," Petersen said.
"Approximately two weeks ago, Ron Grantski, Laci's stepfather, asked Scott if he had a girlfriend. Scott told him no and Ron believed him," Petersen said.
"The family is asking him to tell everything he knows and to fully cooperate with the Modesto Police Department," Petersen said. "Their family is the most important thing to them and if Scott has nothing to hide, they ask him to prove that."
Laci Peterson was reported missing on Christmas Eve. She is due to deliver a baby boy on Feb. 10. Her husband told investigators he went fishing at the Berkeley Marina on Christmas Eve morning.
Police did not indicate to the family if investigators believed Scott Peterson was responsible for his wife's disappearance, according to Petersen.
"The family knows that the police are doing their job," Petersen said. "They don't want to do anything that can hurt their chances of finding Laci."
Petersen, executive director of the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, which is sponsoring a reward for Laci Peterson's safe return, said the Modesto center closed Thursday.
Volunteers also canceled plans to open a one-day center in Los Angeles on Sunday.
"Although Laci has not been located yet, our search effort will not stop," said Brad Saltzman, general manager of the Red Lion Hotel in Modesto, who had been organizing the volunteer centers. "We will continue to search for Laci and her baby boy."
Police have repeatedly said Scott Peterson is not a suspect but has been less than cooperative.

"double indemnity" It's a rider that provides for payment of double (or triple) the face amount of a life insurance policy of the insureds death results from an accident.

Doesn't "double indemnity" have something to do with a large accidental death benefit? The only way I understand double indemnity is if it relates to criminal law....you can't be sued twice for the same thing (at least, I think that's the phrase they use for that, lol).

LOL, that would be "double jeopardy" I was thinking of for criminal law, not double indemnity. (Can we say DUH?)

Oh no, say it isn't so.
I have a nephew who at this very moment lives in downtown San Jose, in a victorian house, with his college roomates and I didn't even imagine about the beer. :(
Considering you are a freeper, I guess there is hope that all will turn out well. :)
No wonder I can rarely reach him on the phone....
To: nicmarlo
I wish we had a Freeper who sells insurance...I have a few questions to ask that Im not clear on.

what's double indemnity? The payoff is doubled if the insured dies an accidental death, as opposed to sickness or murder. Used to be a more common policy until it started getting abused and the price went through the roof. Just buying a policy like that for a housewife, as opposed to a firefighter, etc., is questionable. Might be some sort of tip on where Laci is. Accidental drowning in a local creek while walking the dog? Or another staged death to look accidental. Or maybe the insurance plan got aborted all together but the insurance was a factor at one point, IMO. I hear SP watches too much TV, that would explain the insurance stuff.

I bet there has to be some who do....but I don't know any, myself. I need to be leaving home for the day and won't be back on till tonight, probably; so I'll be checking in later. Have a good day. : )

I am a CLU so I will explain a few things. Double indemnity means the policy pays twice as much for an accidental death of any kind. If I wanted to kill the insured, double indemnity would be a great way to get a lot more for the death. It costs very little more because few die in accidents. So the policy is really a half million if he murdered his wife and they call it an accident.
Another factoid. Men do not take out huge policies on their wives. It would be good to see what his coverage is. Most men take out about $50,000-100,000 on their wives. More than that is quite unusual. Insurance companies screw themselves when they issue large policies on one spouse and not on the other, when the insurance is out of proportion to the value of the insured.
I did not sell a lot of insurance, but I never had a single sale of more than $100,000 on a wife. Most agents consider than a bonus sale, to have a smaller policy on the wife.

I see your point--that maybe that photo was just taken after someone made a joke or something. But I've also seen another photo of him at the same candlelight vigil. In that one, he is holding his 8-yr-old niece--and he has a big smile on his face in that photo, too. Plus, I think someone posted a video showing more smiles.
To: vikingchick
As loathsome as it is for me to defend Scotty-poo, in this particular photo, maybe somebody said something humorous to him at the moment the photo was shot. Someone could have said: "Hey Scott....isn't that photo of Laci beautiful?" and then he looked at it and smiled.Be sure to read the post by blondee123 on yesterday's thread--
link
which quotes the Modbee article about the New Year's Eve vigil.
Here's the quote:
"He did not sit with family members at a vigil for his wife that was held on New Year's Eve. Instead, he mingled with friends and family in the crowd, laughing and smiling a good deal of the time."

I wonder why they connected him to the missing girl 7 years ago. Hmmmm. Well, it is turning out to be, like in the maximum of cases in good neighborhoods, a crime caused by one near and dear. Wonder if Condit is sweating a little: he was the near and dear to poor Chandra.

I'm glad you reposted that quote. I hadn't read as far as your post #9 though, so I linked it from yesterday's thread. That image needs to be remembered.

Heard he was among the last to see Kristen but was never interviewed. He probably went fishing for an extended period of time. Kristen Smart, Krista the guestbook signer who pointed to a girlfriend and an unhappy SP with Laci. Eerie coincidental name similarity.

I can't question the emotion he may be feeling right now... Maybe he was trying to remain upbeat that she is still alive... you know denial? Who knows? All we know right now is that the guy was having an affair... Is that motive for murder? sure... But I wouldn't be out there saying in a public forum he did it... Would I in private? Only my husband knows for sure...
