Husband of missing Modesto woman lied about girlfriend, family says

MODESTO, Calif. (AP) - The husband of a missing pregnant woman may have lied about his relationship with a girlfriend and possibly other things, a spokeswoman for the family said Friday.

Kim Petersen, a spokeswoman for relatives of Laci Peterson, 27, of Modesto, said police have shown the family recent photographs of Scott Peterson with a girlfriend. The husband had previously denied such a relationship, the family said.

"Now, however, they believe he has lied to them about this, and possibly other things as well," Petersen said.

"Approximately two weeks ago, Ron Grantski, Laci's stepfather, asked Scott if he had a girlfriend. Scott told him no and Ron believed him," Petersen said.

"The family is asking him to tell everything he knows and to fully cooperate with the Modesto Police Department," Petersen said. "Their family is the most important thing to them and if Scott has nothing to hide, they ask him to prove that."

Laci Peterson was reported missing on Christmas Eve. She is due to deliver a baby boy on Feb. 10. Her husband told investigators he went fishing at the Berkeley Marina on Christmas Eve morning.

Police did not indicate to the family if investigators believed Scott Peterson was responsible for his wife's disappearance, according to Petersen.

"The family knows that the police are doing their job," Petersen said. "They don't want to do anything that can hurt their chances of finding Laci."

Petersen, executive director of the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, which is sponsoring a reward for Laci Peterson's safe return, said the Modesto center closed Thursday.

Volunteers also canceled plans to open a one-day center in Los Angeles on Sunday.

"Although Laci has not been located yet, our search effort will not stop," said Brad Saltzman, general manager of the Red Lion Hotel in Modesto, who had been organizing the volunteer centers. "We will continue to search for Laci and her baby boy."

Police have repeatedly said Scott Peterson is not a suspect but has been less than cooperative.

wow, you are sooo lucky. Only I don't think I would wish higer temps just yet, cause I can't stand it when they start edging upwards in the 90's plus! San Jose was ideal, you have Santa Cruz to visit, and SF to visit on the shores, cooler climates than inwards.. Funtimes.. I was in LA, NYE, and was very nice the day after. Gorman had snow on the caps.

thanks!... check back later in the day... Freeping is soooo addicting!

look at this page from my dept at SJSU... someone broke in and is having some fun.

professor Unsinger (???)

Never had Unsinger (the victim) but I did have Kuykendall. Great professor. Old Texas lawman... All the other good professors (former cops/courts/corrections/coroners)are gone and have been replaced by liberal PhD holders...

do you remember the guy that walked like a chic, but dressed in suits? He would walk up to me, when I was assigned to some downtown intersections for signal timing, and lift up his shirt and flash a bra on! ....LOL... He is still walking the streets, but now full regalia in women's mini skirts, high heels, make-up, the works!!! And does that hooker flaunting walk...... LOL.. He came up to some of my co-workers in which I had to snap at him, hey move on!! Many are still around, and during those days, I didn't think they would last living 'at risk' styles. Many met their makers...

KCBS always contacts him on serial and mass murder expertise! Ah, there are better people... Students had to be good for the grades.....lol.. I was going for my masters in same field, but a counselor decieded it would best benefit me to mix it in environmental studies. Name my price.... lol... I am in engineering... ;o)shy 33 units of another 4 yr degree.... Got tired of college, now too expensive.

It was 0 degrees here last night, I think that was at around 7 p.m.; I think right now it's 16 or 18 degrees; that would be near Syracuse, NY.

BRRRRRRR.

Volunteers also canceled plans to open a one-day center in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Reality sets in.

Weren't these volunteers being led by the Peterson side of the family, as opposed to Laci's? They may now be afraid of possible angry outbursts from volunteers who may already be saying things to the Peterson side of the family....just a thought.

Hey, last night on FOX, on Hannity & Colmes, there was a FOX legal analyst (don't remember his name), who talked about SP not only taking out a $250,000 life insurance policy, but he was mentioning it was also a "double indemnity" that that is even more suspicious......do you know anything about that? Why would double indemnity be more suspicious? The legal analyst said usually people would be advised against taking that out, it costs more money, and it's unsually not needed....and what's double indemnity?

Oh yeah!! Now I remember Mr Unsinger!! I had him in a few classes.. Had to shake my memory some.. Organized crime, Japanese mafia, Prohibition Era, Italian Mafia, and some others.. Many in the class struggled to keep up, and he always gave pop quiz tests.... Kept me on my toes.. I did good in that class. ;O)

Doesn't "double indemnity" have something to do with a large accidental death benefit? (I'm thinking of that great old 40's movie of the same name with Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray.)

And yes, I also heard the Fox analyst mention this. Interesting.

Yeah, I forgot that part, the legal analyst said that, too. But I still don't know what it does....you don't need to go into all again here, I'll check the other thread then, since you've already been there/done that.....on which thread was it discussed?
