Husband of missing Modesto woman lied about girlfriend, family says

MODESTO, Calif. (AP) - The husband of a missing pregnant woman may have lied about his relationship with a girlfriend and possibly other things, a spokeswoman for the family said Friday.

Kim Petersen, a spokeswoman for relatives of Laci Peterson, 27, of Modesto, said police have shown the family recent photographs of Scott Peterson with a girlfriend. The husband had previously denied such a relationship, the family said.

"Now, however, they believe he has lied to them about this, and possibly other things as well," Petersen said.

"Approximately two weeks ago, Ron Grantski, Laci's stepfather, asked Scott if he had a girlfriend. Scott told him no and Ron believed him," Petersen said.

"The family is asking him to tell everything he knows and to fully cooperate with the Modesto Police Department," Petersen said. "Their family is the most important thing to them and if Scott has nothing to hide, they ask him to prove that."

Laci Peterson was reported missing on Christmas Eve. She is due to deliver a baby boy on Feb. 10. Her husband told investigators he went fishing at the Berkeley Marina on Christmas Eve morning.

Police did not indicate to the family if investigators believed Scott Peterson was responsible for his wife's disappearance, according to Petersen.

"The family knows that the police are doing their job," Petersen said. "They don't want to do anything that can hurt their chances of finding Laci."

Petersen, executive director of the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, which is sponsoring a reward for Laci Peterson's safe return, said the Modesto center closed Thursday.

Volunteers also canceled plans to open a one-day center in Los Angeles on Sunday.

"Although Laci has not been located yet, our search effort will not stop," said Brad Saltzman, general manager of the Red Lion Hotel in Modesto, who had been organizing the volunteer centers. "We will continue to search for Laci and her baby boy."

Police have repeatedly said Scott Peterson is not a suspect but has been less than cooperative.

Now this is more than interesting. Do you know where or WHEN he saw this? Maybe SP was a tad bit distracted in his driving by the frantic thoughts of where he was going to hide his wife's body.

The truckers time line has not been confirmed, this incident is common knowledge at most LE agencys, The time that he seen the vehicle is going to be very important, I don't know that yet, when I find out I will repost.

Rita Cosby is reporting Scott will be in LA tomorrow at a Westwood Hotel handing out buttons and flyers. I wonder if he is going to keep heading south to Mom's in San Diego and then right across the border?

Does the trucker remember what the female looked like? Brunette? Pregnant?

He said it was short dark hair that covered her face. He said the vehicle exited the freeway a couple of times but cought up with him again. I was not made aware of the locations that he took off of the freeway.

This is a great source for legal definitions if you don't have a legal dictionary on hand. (black's law dictionary is the best..can sometimes find them at second hand stores)

double jeopardy
: the prosecution of a person for an offense for which he or she has already been prosecuted --
(see also jeopardy, Amendment V to the Constitution in the back matter)
(compare merger § 3)
Note: The Fifth Amendment to the Constitution states that no person shall ``be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb.'' The double jeopardy clause bars second prosecutions after either acquittal or conviction, and prohibits multiple punishments for the same offense.

Rita Cosby on fox news

on fox news "scott has decidedto resume the volunteer efforts in LOS ANGELES?

Westwood Doubletree Inn Hotel.

I guess the Rochas are not going to be there. He has basically been run out of Modesto IMHO.

Scotts father is saying consider the source of the photos and allegations. People do not have the facts.

Rita is asking does scott have any idea what happened to her.

Lee Peterson is saying someone has her out there that has her and it is our job to find them.

I live about 2 miles from this hotel. I would normally go to help out but if i went in this case i think it might be for the wrong reasons.

LOL on your comments about Scott jumping the boarder.

Of course it will cost more money. Freedom isn't free and neither is truth or justice. But in circumstances like this, money is hardly the issue.

Of course, if the family recovers the insurance proceeds, as they well should, they should not be out of pocket anything in the end. And if they have hired an attorney on a contingency fee basis, they should not ever be out of pocket. That it something for people opposed to contingency fees to contemplate.

I heard that. What is he implying, the photos are fake? No affair? These people are in serious denial.

He's got some nerve, let me tell you. Geraldo said Scott is bringing some 7000 posters and flyers down to Los Angeles. I hope he gets confronted---I hope he gets run out of town. I hope there are people there with signs that say "Where is she, Scott?"

You can't really blame the dad for sticking up for his son, though. It looks pathetic, but is perfectly understandable.

Double jeopardy does not apply to civil and criminal proceedings. Think O.J.
