HARRISBURG | Sure, state's southeast is solid, but will Pittsburgh, Erie back the Birds?
Everybody knows Gov.-elect Ed Rendell will be the state's Cheerleader-in-Chief when the Philadelphia Eagles play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday for the National Football Conference championship at Veterans Stadium.
A football nut, Rendell's been a Birds season ticket holder for 34 years. That means he's seen almost every home-game pass, fumble, tackle and block from Norm Snead to Donovan McNabb.
It also means he's witnessed jubilant victories and more often humiliating defeats from Izzy Lang to Bobby Taylor.

Warren Sapp: The most overrated player in the NFL.Sorry. As long as Desmond Howard is still in the league, he's got the title. The fact that he's permitted a locker and a jersey is far more consideration, in comparison to his level of play, than is granted to any other player in the league, including Jerome Bettis and Ron Dayne.

The solution is simple. NFL fans must DEMAND that the NFL rule that states "only a review from the booth may be made in the last 2 minutes" MUST BE RESCINDED.
FLOOD THE NFL WITH EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS! This ridiculous rule (which I am of the opinion was put in to control the betting line results) must be eliminated.

Doesn't regionalism count for anything?
You ask an excellent question. Regionalism does count, but in PA, it's not really based on geography. Philadelphia, well, the Delaware Valley is kind of viewed as a region unto itself. The rest of the state is more rural and identifies more with Pittsburgh. Well... that and they view Philadelphia as a blood sucking leech on the rest of the state.
In fact, take a look at map of the PA 2002 Democratic Primary results. Scranton Local Bob Casey Jr. took on Philadelphian Ed Rendell. Rendell carried the 9 counties in the South East and Centre County where Penn State is located. The entire rest of the state went for the Scranton candidate.
Quick aside to my fellow PA residents who hold the blood sucking leech opinion of Philadelphia: Speaking as a Philadelphian, I completely support anyone who believes we should re distribute social spending by county. That way, the undesirables can move out to rural areas and Philadelphia won't be saddled with them anymore.

Yeah, but I don't see anyone saying how great he is. I don't see him getting a whole lot of media coverage either.

This cracks me up. Cowher is the biggest crybaby on God's green earth. I noticed he wasn't bitchin about the phantom helmet to helmet hit called on Lance Schulters, the horsebleep Personal foul on Haynesworth and the two non Pass interference calls in the fourth qtr. Up until then the refs were doing a marvelous job. Beauty was I entertained four steeler fans that night and got to watch them use those terrible towels to sop up their tears as they left my abode. GO TITANS!!!

Wow, that map says it all! It would appear that the social/political/cultural divide in PA rivals that of upstate New York vs. NYC.

I've been a Bucs fan from day one. I had a Doug Williams TB jersey when he won the Super Bowl for the Redskins. I remember LeRoy Selman in the 'ol days. I remember the heartache after losing the '80 NFC championship to Los Angeles. It's time. I'm holding out against hope, but it's time.

Everybody knows Gov.-elect Ed Rendell will be the state's Cheerleader-in-Chief I guess that answers the question.....I'm NOT rooting for the Eagles.
The Raiders will win their 4th Super Bowl in 5 tries. Deal with it.

I asked my father, an avid traveler and sports fan, who the worst NFL fans are. He does not follow any NFL team, has no favorites, and therefore, gave me a totally unbiased opinion. He said, "The Philadelphia Eagles fans are the most foul-mouthed, obnoxious, and disrespectful people I've ever witnessed at a sporting event." Then I remembered... those fans are the ones who cheered, clapped, and cursed when Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin lay motionless with a serious neck injury in a game at the Vet...there's your answer...GO BUCS!!!
