I watched this on C-Spam, what the demos are asking for is the same deal they gave to Republicans according to the demos I heard speak. They seemed to think the Republicans were asking for the 2/3 - 1/3 split of prior years. Something the Demos would have done had they picked up seats. The Republicans were upset that they were holding up the chairmanships until an agreement was reached. Something that was not done in the past. Hand the gavels over and negotiate. That is the way it should work.

This was pre-planned by Democrats before the 108th started. The Republican leadership got copies of emails, one was from Patty Murray's office Jan 2 or 3 saying Daschle plan was for them to keep chairs and obstruct , they keep raising the ante today; were adding staff space and Judge appointments

And the only reason they had the deal before was because Jeffords, the turncoat, gave them the Chairmanships not some election. When it was a 50/50 split before the turncoat they had the sharing agreement put in place because of Mccain and Lott.
This is now back to a regular election where Republicans assumed control. The gavels should be handed over right away!

They did not GIVE the Republicans that deal. Trent Lott, who I was starting to feel sorry for, gave that deal to the dems when it was a 50-50 Senate, even though we HAD the majority with Cheney's vote. Then Jeffords jumped the aisle in the middle of the year, and rather than start all over again the Dems decided to keep the funding the same as the Republicans had given them.
Stupid Lott. Stupid, stupid, stupid Lott. You can not EVER EVER do one single tiny thing that benefits a Democrat in any way, for any reason, because they will scream that you've just set a precedent and demand the same favor be given over and over forever. If Thune or Terrell had won and we had 52 Republican senators, they'd be screaming that the funding shouldn't change because 52-48 is so close to 51-49. And somehow they'd make everyone think that was fair.

The GOP needs to take a page out of the Dems book. If the situation was reversed Hillary and Dashole would scream at the top of their lungs "REPUBLICANS ARE STAGING A COUP!" or "THE RIGHT WING OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS HOLDING THE SENATE HOSTAGE!" Our Senators should be doing the same DAMN IT.
