UNPLEASANT SURPRISE: Chinese Missile Has Double the Range Thought by West
NAVLog ^ | 2003 | K.B. Sherman

The Peoples Republic of China recently startled the West when a JH-7 (“Flying Panther”) aircraft (Xian Aircraft Industry Company) fired a YJ-83 anti-ship cruise missile over Bohai Bay, demonstrating twice the range of which the weapon had been believed capable. This weapon is widely believed to be part of Beijing's efforts to develop a long-range strike capability against the US Navy and the Republic of China (Taiwan) Navy.

According to sinodefense.com, the YJ-83 flies within 15 feet of the water’s surface. It is equipped with a 365-pound warhead and a monopulse terminal guidance radar possessing high anti-jamming capabilities. It uses a semi-armor-piercing anti-personnel blast warhead, which relies on the missile's kinetic energy to pierce the deck of a ship, penetrate into and explode in the ship's interior.

Defense specialists say the YJ-83, sometimes called the C-803, also has the capability to receive target information in flight. Richard Fisher of the Jamestown Foundation was quoted as saying that the YJ-83 will probably be outfitted on the upgraded JH-7a fighter-bomber. A 155-mile range would put the launching aircraft outside of the range of Standard SM-2 missile that will be mounted aboard the ex-Kidd-class destroyers recently bought by Taiwan.

Clancy would have to come join us on FR for awhile before that would happen. :)

What do the Chinese military call it? Total warfare, unlimited warfare, something like that?

I get it. It's called decadence--when a country can't summon the will to do what is necessary for survival. The demz suffer from an extreme form of this malady.

Thank you Bill Clinton and all your Cabinet traitors.

Clinton did open our nuclear weapons labs to PRC scientists, but he was continuing and expanding on a Presidential practice established before the Clinton Administration.

During the first Bush Administration, Communist China received classified design information for the W88, our most advanced nuclear warhead, from Los Alamos Laboratory. Republican as well as Democrat Administrations have been providing Communist China with the technology which enables the PRC to target U.S. citizens with ICBMs armed with nuclear warheads. I just wish someone would explain why they think that is an effective use of my tax dollars because I can't figure it out.

I don't support the decision of any person in or out of Government or business who thinks giving the CHICOMS technology to kill us is a good idea. I too, think it is a waste of our tax dollars, and eventually it may be a waste of American lives.

Oh yes, the Red Chinese do have a term for it alright, they call it ...

UNRESTRICTED WARFARE

I believe they are planning it, executing it, and that it will utlimately lead to something akin to ...

DRAGON'S FURY

Very dangerous and perilous times we live in. I pray we can avoid the worst, but more so, I pray we are up to the task of defending and vouchsafing our liberties and way of life.

Thank you GW and Clinton, for extending MFN trading status. Now the American people will build the rope with which we shall be hung, paid for it by Sam Walton, patriot.

"During the first Bush Administration, Communist China received classified design information for the W88, our most advanced nuclear warhead, from Los Alamos Laboratory."

Well, you make it sound like the previous Bush administration gave this information to China as part of some kind of out-in-the-open deal.

That is not true, as I'm sure you are aware and cannot be compared to clinton knowingly making the deals he made.

From the above archived thread's article:

"The espionage was not detected until 1995 when the CIA analyzed Chinese nuclear test results and found similarities with America's most advanced miniature warhead, the W-88, the Times reported."

According to NEWSMAX's Dr.Nemets,

the Russians and Chinese are both developing another cruise-missile that is even more potent, devastating and dangerous,i.e. a type of "land-based attack cruise-missile", ie a new-generation, long-range type with a range of 4000 km !!!!!! How about that !!!!!!

"Are the Chinese planning to rent a navy from which they can use to fire these missiles? They Chinese do not have a NAVY, at least not in credible terms anyway"

Well, they were trying to establish a presence at a former naval base right here, on American soil, thanks to the previous "administration". Does that count?

http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a1001284.htm

From the article in the above link:

"Perhaps the Chinese firm is getting some special consideration from the Clinton-Gore administration. The man behind the illegal guns discovered on the Empress Phoenix -- weapons manufacturer Wang Jun -- has sipped coffee with President Clinton in the White House, thanks to his connections to the Riady family, a major Clinton supporter with business ties to Beijing."

Those anti-ship missiles can be launched from aircraft, which they have plenty of. They also have several Sovremenny class destroyers capable of launching missles, and several other destroyers and frigates. They have at least 5 nuclear powered attack subs, plus many diesel powered subs for coastal defense. Additionally, they have facilities in the Panama Canal zone, and who knows what they have there. They also have a base in the Bahamas, and again, who knows what they have there under wraps.

Just wonderful. So if we occupy Iraq, Afghanastan, and/or any other Middle Eastern nation, they could "Zot" our forces out of existance. Japan would also be at peril, as well as any ship in the Indian Ocean or the western Pacific.

With the US bogged down in Iraq, North Korea rolls over the border. China tells the US that if it uses nuclear weapons, they will have a full-scale global thermonuclear war on their hands. Then the third blow: China invades Taiwan. At that stage, we either have to call China's bluff or let Taiwan go.

I agree completely. The handwritting is on the wall, and to ignore it is simply foolish. The biggest mistake we could make would be to invade Iraq right now. We should instead be focusing on North Korea, while keeping in mind that China will be backing them up. North Korea and China are truly serious threats to our nation, while Iraq doesn't constitute a fraction of the threat posed by those other two countries.

Solve this problem with counter-technology, regard Red China's acquisition of these weapons as an overtly hostile act, let Red China wonder what WE have planned and then carry out our plans to the permanent detriment of Red China. Diplomacy NEVER solves these problems other than the sense in which war is diplomacy by other and far more effective means.
