EVERYONE SHOULD BE WATCHING C-SPAN2
C-SPAN2 ^ | January 14, 2003 | THE BELOVED DEB

The Democrats are in the process of shutting down the Senate to stop the GOP from chairing Senate hearings.

This is going to be two years of total war. Let's see if the media notices!

I liked the idea of Frist saying "Here kitty" to the rats.

How long does these quorum calls last?

If the dems have anything to do with them, forever. They have no desire to conduct the people's business.

House districting has little to do with state legislature appointment of Senators, other than locking congressmen into safe seats. State legislature districts do not align with congressional districts. Redistricting only happens once every 10 years.

I don't think I follow all your reasoning regarding the impact of congressional districts and Senate appointment by state legislatures.

I just think that we wouldn't be seeing the stuff going on today if Senators were appointed by states instead of being popularly elected because they would be more beholden to the states instead of their parties.

Heh heh. The arm-twisting must be getting pretty hot and heavy by now. Six O'Clock news just coming on here in the east. Things usually either resolve by then or last far into the night to avoid making the morning papers.

Rats need 'spin' interval.

From your post at 4pm:
Did he just say that some Dem staffer said back in October that if the Dems won, they were going to go back to the original funding, but that if the GOP won, they were going to fight to keep it at 50-50?***

We must ask ourselves at every disagreement or difficulty, "What would the democrats do if the roles were reversed? " In this instance, you better believe they would have it back to the 2/3-1/3 funding in the blink of an eye.

I've probably been unclear. (Watching Dems flaunt the rule of law usually has this effect on me:-)

The Founders intended that the lower house be elected popularly and the upper house be appointed by the state legislators. This would be fine except that with districts determined by other than geographical considerations (race, for example), it is virtually impossible to get a 'representative' vote.

IMHO, If we abolished the 17th before cleaning up the House, we would have no 'real' popularly elected branch.

I am convinced that the RATS are sooooo out of control that they are really going to screw themselves this time. The entire country will (if Frist and other Republicans do their jobs effectively) see them AS THEY REALLY ARE!! ROTTEN.

They stated on FNC that Frist was going to keep them in session next week, instead of a vacation break, and that the Dems will settle before that so they can leave DC...

Let Frist get his baptism by fire. He'll learn and be guided by truth that DEMS ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED -- something that will give him a big leg up on both Lott and Dole.
