The Democrats are in the process of shutting down the Senate to stop the GOP from chairing Senate hearings.
This is going to be two years of total war. Let's see if the media notices!

How's Wellstone's death any different from Paul Coverdell's before the last Congress? I hazard the guess you can find a similar death before most Congresses.

Reid's up for reelection in 2004. Evidently, he barely won in 1998. I think the GOP is looking really hard at this race and consider it a good seat to pick up.

You're right about Reid. He's in big trouble back home, and he was counting on Daschle stepping down as leader so HE could be leader with some power to win back home.
Tough S**T.

The Dems are threatening to filibuster the organizing resolution, which names the committee members AND the chairmen and ranking members, UNLESS the GOP agrees IN THE RESOLUTION to certain levels of funding ( 51-49) and office space, and also, I believe, blue pencil prerogatives for Sens to block judicial nominations.....

Are you kidding me? Now he's touting O'Neil's skepticism over the tax cuts. Claiming that O'Neil is a gentleman and a great man? Wasn't it the Democrats who were on the offensive against O'Neil?

Did you hear Reid earlier say that the 108th Congress was a special situation, because Wellstone died?....Just when you thought that the 'rats couldn't exploit Wellstone's death any further than they already have ...

IN 94/95 the blame for the shutdown got put on the Republicans.... And Republicans didn't do a lot to counter that perception. I think we're still hurting from that event, and that's going to make this harder to deal with.

Rumor is that Fred Thompson, of recent Law and Order fame, is the second S.C. pick, after Gonzales, of the White House counsel's office becomes the first Hispanic pick. Thompson would be a hard target for the dems, and he would have the backing of his homeboy, Frist. by the way, I thought Frist was quite impressive on Fox this sunday; answers were unequivacating and well reasoned.

He is mistaken, it was never 51 Democrats. He wasn't mistaken; he was lying.

We don't need a big majority. Bush is happy to have Schumer threaten a filibuster. He'll take that fight on.
Alberto Gonzales (formerly of the TX Supreme Ct) will be the replacement this summer. Estrada will get the nod next summer.
Hatch is old. We don't need to settle for an old justice.

Naw..the Dems will screw it up.....it's in their genese...they ALWAYS overreach.....my long shot prediction....Zell Miller crosses the aisle...

Yep, the Dems were shouting from the rooftops that W had to change his economic team. I swear they have no scruples whatsoever.
As for O'Neil...he doesn't have any class either. He should have kept his mouth shut.

it was never Democrats 51-49 - it was 50-50 and then, following the overturn of the election by Jumpin' Jim Jeffords, Democrats 50, Republicans 49 and Independents 1. Now it is Republicans 51, Democrats 48 and Independents 1. The Democrats keep wanting to count Jumpin' Jim as a Democrat when he's still (supposedly) an "Independent" (which is the only time this distinction really matters)

I'd offer to call my other Senator, McCain, but why bother... I hope they find someone willing to take him on in 2004 in the primaries in AZ... My feeling is: anybody but McCain...
