Grijalva invites Ashcroft to see vigilante 'justice'
ARIZONA DAILY STAR; Tuesday, January 14, 2003
U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva stepped up his campaign to crack down on vigilantes Monday by inviting Attorney General John Ashcroft to come to Southern Arizona to see the threat they pose to border security.
The Tucson Democrat told Ashcroft in a letter that the federal government's silence on the issue is "seen as giving official sanction to this racist movement, both by the perpetrators and victims of vigilante 'justice.' "
Ashcroft's voice, Grijalva added, "is needed now to make clear that private armed groups claiming law enforcement powers have no role in patrolling our border with Mexico."
Last week, shortly after he was sworn in, Grijalva called for a federal inquiry into the vigilante groups that have formed in response to the thousands of illegal immigrants who make their way across Arizona's border every year.

American Reniassance is an explicitly racialist site that under Free Republic's guidelines is fair game for banishment. VDARE is not, and should not be banned, and further features Michelle Malkin, who is very mainsteam and an important commentator.

Mexican Officials Impersonate INS Agents
By Roger Hedgecock
CNSNews.com Special
January 14, 2003
(Editor's Note: The following item is from the Jan. 14 Flashfax by radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock concerning the Jan. 9, 2003 crash of a truckload of illegal aliens in San Diego and the impersonation of U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service agents by officials from the Mexican Consulate.)
We've got to build a cast of characters on a piece of paper so that we better understand what happened on January 9th following the crash of a pick up truck loaded with illegals fleeing U.S. Border Patrol and (California Highway Patrol) officers. Two women dead at the scene.
As related in yesterday's Flash some guy from the Mexican Consulate in San Diego poses as an American INS agent and gets into the back of the ambulance with the load driver who is being taken to a hospital. Interviews the load driver during the ride and then remains at the hospital (Scripps Hillcrest) with the driver.

In this case, though, when discussing Glenn Spencer, at least one of the statements was verfied quite easily via a Google search. I, too, have concerns about them, but they don't seem to be getting hit with too many defamation lawsuits, either.

Good pic's........Mexico has no interest of poor mexicans
IN mexico.....I recently read a story about a family who
were housed in "temporary housing" by the mexican gov't
due to the 1985 earthquake. Well, the family is STILL
there, most of their kids grown & gone. Guess their just
lucky their gov't didn't come in & doze their "temporary
shack".

Yet another example of why I really think we should forget about Bagdad and Pyongyang for now and commit ALL of our resources to eliminating the slime right here at home.

Mexico is so unbelievably corrupt.....Hard to understand the good people down there just don't march on that government en mass.
Hard to believe our own leaders consider this corrupt government our friends. Look at those damn photographs people. Crossing that damn border going southbound is like going into the twilight zone..I've seen these areas close up, in person. Nothing but a total disgrace!

This is soooo out of control........

I would have to disagree. We should settle Baghdad first; the ROK Armed Forces are strong enough in their own right to leep the North from having things its own way. This is not 1950. I was a Korean linguist with the Army for 20 years and did eight tours over there. That country is a complete basket case and Kim Jong Il is a certifiable lunatic.
I did two years running around the DMZ so I guess it's only Karma (good or bad) that led me to join ABP. We have not lost the border as someone suggested. A lot more people are getting involved. ABP and CDP are just the most visible elements right now.
None of us are racist or xenophobes. My reasons for joining were simple. I like backpacking and camping and the coyotes and drug smugglers have made a lot of the prime areas for that pastime unsafe in Cochise County. I found myself looking for areas further north until I realized I was taking the wuss option.
I will not surrender my freedoms just to accomodate a bunch of thugs.

Your link lists numbers of people by nationality dealt with by INS, a government agency, not a self-appointed bunch of anti-Mexican hobbyists (complete with a level of misspellings suggesting that the table was compiled not by INS or even by the Center for Immigration Studies (a persistent offender with a cultivated half-way respectable public iumage pasted over the same old hysteria) but by the usual xenophic hobbyists. Do you have a table of numbers of immigration applications by nationality ignored and stored in Kansas by INS?

How many Norwegians are they tracking? In FY 2002, only one Norwegian was apprehended sneaking in from Mexico. Norwegians usually fly into to the country and enter legally, and only leave when they fell like it. There is not much of a need for them to sneak in across the border.
How many Chinese?
333 Chinese nationals were apprehended sneaking in from Mexico in FY 2002, so approximately 650 got pass that Border Patrol and are now living happily in the US.
How many Bohemians?
Only 8 were apprehended sneaking in from Mexico, in FY 2002.
Any Finns?
No. Like the Norwegians, they just enter legally and stay as long as they like. No need to sneak in.
Oh, that's right! Its just Mexicans but that is just a coincidence, right?
The following folks were caught trying to sneak in from Mexico in FY 2002: Afghanistan = 13, Egypt = 30, Iraq = 28, Iran = 28, Israel = 60, Jordan = 59, Kuwait = 5, Lebanon = 25, North Korea = 4, Pakistan = 93, Palestine = 1, Qatar = 2, Saudi Arabia = 17, Syria = 11, Yemen = 10.
Lets not forget the Hundred thousand or so from Central and South America. Or the thousands from Africa, Asia, The Caribbean and Europe. Yes there are more Mexicans sneaking in, but they are not alone.
Remember, for every one caught, approximately 2 get through.
How could I have thought otherwise?
Probably because you are misinformed.

Well, I can certainly agree with that proposed reform. It is the same one that allowed a tremendous number of self-sufficient immigrants of all backgrounds to come her in the past. Nothing wrong with rejecting those who are not capable of supporting themselves from any and all countries.

An illegal alien is an insult to every legal immigrant.

Vicente Fox, formerly the head of Mexican Coca-Cola (now there's anti-Americanism for you!) and an associate of Roberto Goizueta is the Mexican version of Osama bin Laden? An enemy of America? Hostile to the US? I don't think so times three!
Canada has had its chance at freedom and rejected it as Robert Taft the Elder said of Europe in 1948. Mexico's freedom lies ahead within Mexico's own borders and the defeat of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (yesteryear's killers of priests) was a key tio breaking the corruption. Apparently you believe that the PRI thugs who had 80 years to institutionalize, crime, corruption and half-communist economics can be rooted out in a few weeks.
As to Canada, can you spell T-R-U-D-E-A-U? He was the anti-American leader (sort of a Canadian Henry Wallace or George McGovern) of the same party that rules in Ottawa today. Chretien is a modern morph of Trudeau.

The Mexicans are coming whether you like it or not. There is nothing, consistent with the constitution of the United States that you can do about it.
I think you are clearly lacking any grasp of the constitution.

Sorry for the misspellings. Most have been corrected, and I'll work on the others.
No the list was not complied by the INS, it was compiled by me.
The INS would never release these number to the public, as they do not want the public to know who is crossing the borders.
The numbers are official INS apprehensions numbers from their database.

Read the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments and see that persons, not merely citizens, are protected by the due process clauses. Too many Americans are in the habit of imagining that the Constitution means what they would like it to mean rather than what it plainly says.
There is no feasible way to close the borders and the coasts short of building an Iron Curtain around America or a cobalt curtain. There is no way that we can afford the personnel necessary. There is no way that anyone is going to side with the border hysteria as a political matter. The day we have to build a wall around America is the day that America is finished and the rumors of her death are quite premature.
Not too long ago, Ronald Reagan led conservatives to two consecutive smashing victories in 1980 and 1984 as the man whose entire public career was a sunny disposition and publicly expressed hatred of bigotry. He was the one office holder of note worth inviting to dinner. How soon we forget! Dubya emulates Reagan's decency and is bashed for it.
Let's have this battle out in 2004. Run Tommy Tancredo against Bush in the primaries and the Republican primary voters will settle this matter once and for all and save the party's reputation. Tancredo has a lot better chance of losing his Congressional seat than he does of beating Dubya anywhere and you know it.

...a self-appointed bunch of anti-Mexican hobbyists...You are definitely a piece of work BlackElk. You have a very weird fixation on Skinheads, Aryan types, Klansmen and the rest of that ilk. Guess what? There ain't none of them here. The only time a couple of them showed up, they were given detailed instructions on how to find their way back to I-10 in the quickest fashion. We do not tolerate them here.
I openly identified myself as a member of American Border Patrol. At age 47, I am one of the younger members. A lot of our active patroling members are legally senior citizens. A lot of them are women -- and they still put themselves willingly in harm's way.
What does it take to convince you that we do NOT care what nationality crosses our border illegally? If the Pope tried to cross through here illegally, I'd turn his fanny in and I am Catholic.
You're sitting just a few miles southeast of Lake Wobegone country and you think you know what it's like here on the border? Give me an effin' break.
My (Mexican-)American co-workers are cheering me on because this affects them as well. How would you feel if you had Mexican ancestry but were afraid to let your mother drive alone from Sierra Vista to Douglas for fear that she could be car-jacked? How would you feel if your mother lived out of town and had suddenly developed a .44 Magnum fetish?
