Grijalva invites Ashcroft to see vigilante 'justice'

ARIZONA DAILY STAR; Tuesday, January 14, 2003

U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva stepped up his campaign to crack down on vigilantes Monday by inviting Attorney General John Ashcroft to come to Southern Arizona to see the threat they pose to border security.

The Tucson Democrat told Ashcroft in a letter that the federal government's silence on the issue is "seen as giving official sanction to this racist movement, both by the perpetrators and victims of vigilante 'justice.' "

Ashcroft's voice, Grijalva added, "is needed now to make clear that private armed groups claiming law enforcement powers have no role in patrolling our border with Mexico."

Last week, shortly after he was sworn in, Grijalva called for a federal inquiry into the vigilante groups that have formed in response to the thousands of illegal immigrants who make their way across Arizona's border every year.

Besides, Fox is of an old and noble family and part Irish, no less.

His ethnicity doesn't much matter but he was elected to be president of Mexico and the people wanted him to improve things there which he hasn't done. In fact he's continued the same type of policies like NAFTA and ridding his country of it's campesinos which Salinas started, it seems there isn't much difference between PRI and PAN as far as conditions for the majority of people. The campesinos aren't natural communists but if the US continues to side with the greedy class over there, they will be pushed in that direction. Revolution seems to be around the corner.

No, it must be a recognition that freedom was the original purpose of this nation and not xenophobic racist and religious bigotry. See the Declaration of Independence.

If "most of the American people" are tired of all this, then run little Tommy Tancredo in the GOP primaries and teach Dubya a lesson. Fat chance. Put your hero where your mouth is.

Dang! What was I thinking, Jesh, your right, the American people love this disrespectful, massive invasion of millions. We want more millions to follow. It's not like the government is ignoring this titanic issue. The fact of the matter is, if we can only get 20 or 60 million more illegals to follow those already here, we will then become a great country...What was I thinking!

Boy, your brilliant! I mean it.

I'm not convinced that SPLC's concerns about them are unwarranted.

Are you going to keep repeating the same old "it's all the fault of those immigrants?"

I'm not buying it, so save your bandwidth.

Gonna hunt me down?

He won't have to. After Mexico City, D.F. and Buenos Aires, the third largest city with the greatest number of Spanish-speaking residents is...Chicago, Illinois.

They'll be coming to displace the locals in Rockford and Schaumburg soon enough, and until then, the junkies and rapists among them will account for a few.

I'm not convinced that SPLC's concerns about them are unwarranted.

I spent two nights researching, among other things, the bigotry claims SPLC made against Glenn Spencer. Nothing panned out, two items were clearly demonstrated to be complete lies by other FR posters, and others were extremely vague as a means to add filler to their charges. Once again, I went into the exercise as a skeptic against Spencer and American Patrol. You're entitled to your opinion, but mine was changed by actual research.

"Nothing in the article indicates that the drug smugglers in question were Mexicans. There was a reference to another incident involving armed Mexican nationals but not to them shooting at border patrol officers."

Exactly, No knows WHO is at our borders, but some are armed
and some are shooting/killing at our agents & citizens.....
& our gov. is doing nothing MORE to stop it.

"If Mexicans violate the law, arrest them and deal with them ACCORDING TO LAW,"

BP is obviously not keeping up with the thousands that
cross illegally everday.

"It is a matter of shame that such people have to be "smuggled" across our borders."

The SHAME is that mexico continues, as it has for decades,
to do nothing for her own people. Mexico continues to be
such a crappy place that her citizens risk their lives
to escape from it.

Gee, BlackElk, that is exactly what the border groups are trying to do. Spot people breaking the law, and inform the INS so the lawbreakers can be apprehended. You can rant about INS guidelines all you want, but odds are coyotes are not gonna fill out a visa form one way or the other.

1. I think that there is a lot more good about Mormonism than you are willing to admit. Do you check the citizenship of Latinos seeking to become Mormons? We Catholics certainly don't check the citizenship of Latinos attending Mass.

2. No, you are not racist for wanting to abolish all welfare. In fact, you win a prize here. You are the very first anti-immigration poster to state opposition to welfare generally and not just for Mexicans. Congratulations.

3. I have been a NRA-list lawyer for NRA members arrested on firearms charges in Connecticut. As far as I am concerned, I think the Second Amendment applies to every person as well and individually not merely as part of some official or unofficial gummint group.

4. You chose the Benson quote not I. You don't seem to be very consistent with it.

5. A common culture? You must be joking. I am not a Mormon. You are apparently not a Catholic. Gloria Steinem and Jesse Helms? Eminem and Kansas? Robert Mapplethorpe and actual artists? Don't get me started.

6. Anyone with any sense will learn English to prosper here. There has NEVER been a time from the colonial era forward when everyone here spoke English.

7. You have lost the borders, Spiff. You just refuse to accept the fact. Much better that America be the ideas, ideals and principles of its founders. That has worked very well to date and will continue to work well. Just have enough self-confidence to refuse to consort with the cultural heirs of those who hanged Joseph Smith, told my ancestors that Irish need not apply, or tried every trick in the book to prevent the melting pot and failed.

This discussion is pretty heated, so I am kind of hesitant about putting in my two cents. Oh, well. Here goes.

About illegals--nope, they should be bounced right on out of here. They want a better life? Come in the front door. It doesn't matter what country you are coming from. Do it the right way. Period.

About racism--border patrols are not targeting illegal Mexicans. They are targeting illegals. Unfortunately, there is now a great threat posed to this country by terrorists. Terrorists enter the country illegally. Therefore, illegals need to be turned away. That is just the way it is. End of story.

Illegals do incur a huge cost to the taxpayer. Strong-arming them into paying for these costs is wrong. Is anyone suggesting that American taxpayers should be footing the bill for only Mexican illegals? It kind of seems like it, which, IMO, would actually be more racist than wanting to keep illegals and their expense out.

Personally, I think legal immigration (when done right) is good for the United States. However, I think we should seriously reevaluate our legal and illegal immigration policies to safeguard our environment, country, citizens, and budget. It is not racist to do this. It is smart.

Well, then we disagree, yet Jim Robinson has, for some reason, banned links to the site. The fact also remains that Mr. Spencer STILL links to American Renaissance and VDARE - both sites were "banned" by Jim as well.

The SPLC does have some credibility on this. Glenn Spencer, on the other hand, doesn't, IMHO.

Ummmmm, Joe, that Bear flag on your profile IS the California state flag, is it not? That's where YOU live and where you have acquired your attitudes and practice them as can be seen by the Latino vote results in the People's Demonratic Republic of California, since Planned Barrenhood's pal Pete Wilson ruined the GOP there without saving taxpayers a dime but costing an awful lot in frivolous litigation seeking to ignore the 14th Amendment. You do NOT live in land-locked Arizona. You live in lalaland.

"The SHAME is that mexico continues, as it has for decades, to do nothing for her own people."

Is it possible the Mexican government has a little help from their friends in the INS, White House, and American business?

If you do the math, the corn, strawberry, lettuce, (all produce), chicken (all meat processing), farming, building, and road construction companies have decided to pocket the difference between what they would have paid Americans and what they can get by with paying illegal Mexicans.

It comes out to a very hefty profit for Joe American at the end of the tax year.

(Plus, Joe American can save even more by evading taxes by hiring illegals.)

Nah... the Mexicans wouldn't come here if the work dried up (and guess what - it WON'T).

"Ummmmmm, going to Cuba to live so long as it is communist."

What's this supposed to mean ???

You're the *lawyer* in Ill. presenting yourself as an expert on border issues/mexico/vicente fox. You said Fox
would not be visiting Cuba. I just posted a link to point
out that he ALREADY has.

Still waiting for you to post ONE THING you think mexico
should be doing for her *poor citizens*........or at least
ONE THING mexico has done to discourage their citizens
from risking their lives, while attempting to leave mexico.

Actually, he has not. I have that straight from the source.

The fact also remains that Mr. Spencer STILL links to American Renaissance and VDARE - both sites were "banned" by Jim as well.

I do agree he should reconsider those links, but since those groups also discuss illegal immigration extensively, linking to those does not prove he is a racist.

The SPLC does have some credibility on this. Glenn Spencer, on the other hand, doesn't, IMHO.

Fascinating. So the SPLC can lie and defame Spencer, yet you find THEM more credible.

I have major problems with those groups - I think they were banned for good reason, and I think that Americna Renaissance is clearly racist. VDARE is also pretty close to the line.

If he keeps linking to those groups, then I do not think it is fair to say that the SPLC is lying or defaming Mr. Spencer. He's still associating with those groups - and if one lies down with dogs, they run the risk of getting fleas.
