PRESIDENTS' DAY
ZULU | January 13, 2002 | ZULU

Here we sit, roughly one month away from "Presidents' Day" (February 17, 2002).

George Washington's Birthday, formerly a National Holiday has been pre-emplted by this ridiculous "day".

George Washington was the first President of this Republic. He was also the heart and soul of the military opposition to the forces of the British Crown during the Revolution. He WAS the American Revolution. He DESERVES a National Holiday. more than Columbus or Martin Luther King Jr.

Yet his holiday has been pre-empted by a mindless, amorphous entity called "Presidents' Day".

I don't know about you, but I'm NOT happy about celebrating a day commemorating historical non-entities like President Tyler, President Hayes, President Garfield. Or commorating the likes of Andrew Jackson - an anti-American Indian Racist and cheater at dueling, President Grant - who ran one of the most corrupt administrations in history, James Buchanan who helped create the civil war by his deliberate policy of neglect towards the arming of southern states and protection of federal arsenals, Presidents Taft and Harding who also ran corrupt administrations, President "Prosperity is Right Around the Corner Hoover", President Franklin Roosevelt - the socialist and Stalinst lackey, Presidnet John F. Kennedy - womanizer and diplomatic amateur, President Johnson - who engineered the worst fought war in American history, President Jimmy Carter - a total loss as a leader, President Nixon - a paranoid nutcase, President Bill Clinton - a national disgrace, sexual predator and traitor.

I want a day to celebrate a great American - a genuine hero, the founder of our nation, the spirit of the Revolution, a man bigger than life - George Washington.

I'd always just assumed that it was just a blend of Lincoln's (2/12) and Washington's (2/22) birthdays.

I believe that is not the case. The holiday was instituted, as I can best recall, during Nixon's tenure along with the movement to consolidate all holidays into three day weekends whenever possible, thus diluting the real meaning and impact of the occasion.

I am fairly certain that "Presidents' Day" is meant to commemorate all individuals who ever held that office, despite the fact that a few were great, most were mediocre, and a great many were actually bad.

"your FDR who single handedly pulled us out of the depression"

No, more like single handedly the first President to cause a depression within a depression. Who gave you your PhD, a group of Marxist FDR cheerleaders? Also, the cherry tree and the telling of lies was the same story. Propaganda of course, but what are the other "these" (Stories) you mention? You only mentioned one story.
