RALEIGH, N.C. -- The United States has more troops around the world than at any other time in history, and a lot of those troops are based in North Carolina. Wrong. We had millions of troops overseas in WWII, way more than our total troop strength today. We probably have troops deployed to more countries than ever before though.

The Pentagon has said it wants 100,000 troops in the Gulf region by Jan. 31. To put that into perspective as far as build-up, there were half a million troops in the area at the height of the Gulf War.Attesting to the theory that in the last time we engaged Iraq, 9% of the munitions delivered were smart weapons that casued 74% of the destruction; this time around we expect to deploy over 75% smart weapons in the first week of conflict.... I'm sure the damage will allow a much smaller force, aided by controlling 40% of Iraq via No Fly Zones will prove too much to overcome or defend beyond 10-days for Saddam. If we do get into a shooting match, it will be short and Saddam will leave with safe passage for another terrorist state in North Africa....
