The Defense Department recently obtained additional intelligence stating that a missing Navy pilot is alive and being held by the Iraqi government, according to U.S. officials.

The intelligence officials believe that the reports refer to Navy Capt. Michael Scott Speicher, whose status was changed to "missing/captured" by the Navy in October.

If we have credible evidence that he has been held prisoner, or any evidence of an Oklahoma City Bombing-Iraq connection, the time to make it public is right before the bombs start to fall.

The ones I really feel for (other than our pilot, of course) is his poor family.

Imagine what is going through their minds as they see our troops, planes, and ships deploying.

God save this airman - Amen!

The OKC connection will never be revealed, imo. Bush has Clinton's back (and I hesitate to speculate why this is the case).

But if it were ever revealed, I'd be the happiest guy around :)

I'd also be thrilled if Bush provided proof (or at least overwhelming circumstantial evidence) that Saddam was involved with 9/11 and/or the subsequent anthrax attacks (and I'm fairly convinced Saddam had a hand in both). But realistically, all we're probably going to get is incontrovertible proof that Saddam is lying about his WMD program, and that'll be all we need to calm everyone down and take care of the business of regime change.

Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, told reporters last month that a conflict with Iraq will make it more difficult to resolve the fate of Capt. Speicher.

How compassionate of him not to not politicize the issue with somebody that gave his all for our freedom and security(sarcasm)....God be with Captain Speicher, and I wish for his fast return home if he is a prisoner of war.

Good article post "Kattracks"

There is a sign on the St. Johns River in near Jackonville, Florida that says "Free Scott Speicher." I pray this will one day come true.

The defector is one of at least three Iraqis who reported that Baghdad is holding an American pilot from the 1991 Persian Gulf war.

They've held him for over 11 years?

Iraq might reveal that it has the pilot and then threaten to execute him if U.S. forces invade.

That would buy Saddam about zero seconds of extra time. Such a tactic would probably encourage us to make a much more devastating first srike to cover a rescue mission.

And any Iraqi officer associated in even the remotest way with the mistreatment or murder of Capt. Speicher would be facing a very untimely and unpleasant demise. I know I wouldn't want to be targeted by SOCOM for special attention!

If Capt. Speicher is indeed still alive and being held by Iraq, they are making a huge and deadly mistake.

Bill Clinton is no longer president.

You can't alter military and national defense policy decisions because of such circumstances. War is war. Soldiers will get killed and will be taken prisoner. Leaders who don't understand war shouldn't get involved in it.

From post #1: "Iraq might reveal that it has the pilot and then threaten
to execute him if U.S. forces invade."

My reaction to this would be to nuke one of their
cities where we know he isn't being held,

then issue an offical notice:

"If he isn't released, unharmed,
we'll continue to nuke an Iraq city each day.
If he's harmed, we'll nuke them all.
Have a nice day."

I know it's damned tempting in cases like this, but we are the Good Guys, and have to act like it.

The fact is, now that the U.S. is under new management, we are rapidly improving our "non-nuclear options" for dealing with mad dog criminals worldwide. And most of those options are far more unpleasant for their targets than instant vaporization.

If Capt. Speicher is being held in Iraq, those around him know for a fact that they will be held personally accountable for his well-being.

And Allah help them if they kill or mistreat him, because no one else in heaven, hell or on Earth will be willing or able to save them from the wrath of the Delta Force operators, who are expertly trained in extracting both information and vengeance without leaving any tracks.

Given the choice, I'd rather be nuked if I were in their shoes. It's better to die painlessly in a second than slowly and painfully over a period of days, weeks, months or years.

Roger that. And you know that Iraqi prison commandant can see the shadows deepening all around his sorry ass by the hour.
