This a good article that I copied to my hard drive. I hope to repeat it once in a while.
Bump to the bang list.

THE NRA STINKS. So does GOA, SAF, JPFO, and any or all of the rest of the gun rights organizations. At the same time, all of these organizations are the best thing since sliced bread. We won't keep our rights without them. It's normal to love them and hate them at the same time. Be sure your complaints about them go to the person who can do something about your problem. Never give up your membership -- it's much easier to fix things from the inside.
Avoid griping in public -- our opponents love it when we do. Always handle our dirty laundry behind closed doors. Always. In case someone missed this point.

TAKE A YOUNG PERSON, OR SEVERAL, OUT TO THE RANGE. Make it a point to take young people out shooting several times a year. The money spent is well worth it. After the shooting, the youngers are ripe for little chats about natural rights, and "those people" who want to disarm everyone except their own bodyguards. The smell of burnt powder seems to cure the normal boredom caused by such liturgies. ;-)
To: an amused spectator
That's good. We used to run New Shooters' Nights here where we'd provide an abbreviated introduction to handgun technology, a thorough introduction to range safety, and then took the people out on the range, put .22s in their hands, and let them at it.
Best of all, it was completely funded by donations and there was no cost to the students.
We kept the politics out of the pre-range lectures, and saved it for the chatting afterwards.

Never hurts to re-emphasize THAT point.
I got my complaints about the NRA, but they're still WAY ahead of whatever's in second place.

It wasn't directed at you personally. You're just one of many. I've repeated the phrase, "we have to work together" at least a dozen times in half as many days.

Although this is aimed at the RKBA crowd, it's a useful set of rules for advocacy on any issue.
