From THAT news story - "During the 1990s, U.N. weapons inspectors found ricin in Iraq, where it was being developed as part of Saddam Hussein's arsenal of weapons."

Hmmm, this sounds like a rerun of a recent CSI program. Life imitating art again.

Let's see. Just yesterday there was a website, I think it was on yahoo, that was giving out information on how to make ricin, though the site was taken down almost while I was reading the article here.
And I know it takes days to make ricin, I just learned that from the article. It was encouraging good little terrorists to start poisoning people's food in the UK.
But interesting that this comes out now.

This is serious. The Brits are either going to need to get meaner and uncivilized than hell or get killed.

Michael Jackson is "on" to something ...
To: dennisw
Dennis, I'm having trouble with the link as well. Is there someplace we can pull it down all at once?

"The only thing really keeping terrorists from the US is the complication of getting across the Atlantic. When they finally get a strong hold on britain, we're screwed."
You got that right, unfortunately.

Han't kindly ole Uncle Soddomite used Ricin on the Kurds and some others in Iraq in the late 1980's?

They are here. The Chinese own the Panama Canal. I think we're going to see a crap load of baddies coming across when we hit IRAQ. I'm glad the militia guys are actually walking the borders right now, and I think they will end up being the first line of defense against a larger-scale invasion that does NOT contain "Illegal Mexicans" - but more like "Illegal Chinese, Cubans, North Koreans and Arabs from all over the middle east".

Here's a link...not as far back as I remembered...June, 2002 GMTA. Here is another link to the story.
Perhaps these gentlemen were all part of an innocent international spouse-killing ring....

Actually, now that I think about it more, this doesn't bode well at all.
Britain, as being our parent country, has always had close ties with us since the beginning of our country. However, the current laws in britain make it probably the best place to stage an attack on the US.
Britain jails people for defending themselves.
It is illegal to own handguns in britain, so only criminals have arsenals, so they know that they won't be challenged by the law-abiding citizens of britain.
Britain is getting lax on jailing burglars, which suggests they are downsizing their police force and thus it will be easier to hide in the criminal population without fear of being dealt with.
If terrorists can get ahold of an airport in britain, enough so that they can smuggle weapons onto the passenger compartment on a major airliner, they can land in a US city and tactically have the upper hand. (the only people in airports with guns are law enforcement, so there are plenty of defenseless targets once that plane lands)
Let's not forget the potential for a smuggled bomb.

Ricin was the poison used to murder Bulgarian exile Georgi Markov in a political assassination in London in 1978. In case some don't know, Markov was assinated in the London subway by the Bulgarian secret police, using a ricin-tipped umbrella point to prick him with. Markov died the next day. Full details of the assination became available after the government fell, but the Bulgarian secret police were suspected immediately.
