That will give the conspiracy theorist a field day; article posted on WND that the alerts are made up to keep President Bush popular. The nuts were coming out of the woodwork.

Got link?

H.R. 3209 - Anti-Hoax Terrorism
establishes criminal and civil penalties for unfounded threats of biological, chemical, and nuclear attack; passed House 423-0 on 12/12/01

...from the Web site I may carry on with (www.unspun.info). To my knowledge this bill never made it past the US Senate.

Does anyone know if this was included in the eventual Homeland Security Act, or any other legislation? I looked the copy over and didn't find it there.

Or, does anyone know what the penalties are, regardless?

The alert was part of information that led officials to shut down New York's harbor to all ships except emergency vessels from New Year's Eve through New Year's Day, and to ban vehicles from roads alongside the harbor.

Conspiracy theorists might think this was a clever ploy. I remember watching the movie (forget the name) where Robert Redford was a disgraced military officer in prison. The Warden was Tony Soprano. They made up a fake uprising, to see what, when, how, and how long the response would be in order to prepare for a real plan to take over the prison.

Could this have been the ploy to see what we do and how we do it?

This old man finds this really ugly and infuriating. How many false alarms have we had since 9/11...every holiday comes with a predictation of disaster and despair.

Someone with a devious mind (like mine) would simply drop the guy off in front of a known al-Qaeda safehouse in an FBI car, enthusiastically pump his hand, stuff a big wad of $100 bills into his shirt pocket, and shove him out the door.

The A-Qs will take care of the rest :o)

They will have a new one, that the men are really in the US and the FBI can't find em so they lied to us...there is always someway to make a conspiracy (especially when your a heavily medicated DU user.)

...fooled by a two bit "informant" into getting the nation crazy.

I remember right after 9/11, as there was talk about developing new law enforcement procedures (which eventually became the Patriot Bill), the FBI was telling us that we were going to have to get used to negotiating with bad guys in order to gain info about other bad guys.

I guess this is the fruit of that thinking.

It's also the reason why I couldn't take the tunnel to Windsor on New Years to go to Shin Shin's, the greatest Schezuan on earth.

I curse this lying terrorist and may he never know the joy of fried rice bread and the most sumptuous General Tao Chicken.

What muslims don't know about Islam could fill a website...

No, it makes perfect sense. Numbskull #1 is arrested for providing false passports. To try to squeeze out of the jam, he offers to identify terrorists who used his passports to enter the US. The FBI (or canadian fbi) then shows him pictured from his vast collection of fake passports and hg goes...

Yup, that's one.

Nope, not that one.

Yup, that one.

Yeah, him too, that's another....

You get the idea.
