My Dad did convoy duty in WW2 so I rented "Das Bot" for him. He said the scene were the U-boat was in a storm brought back memories of storms in the North Atlantic he was in.
It was a pretty grim movie and showed that the German Navy was the least nazi-fied of their military branches.

I agree Das Boot was a great, dark movie. Not sure I agree with the quote above. From what I've read, a good many of the U-Boat commanders were pretty fanatic Nazis.

If your dad was doing convoy duty in WWII then I would highly recommend
Action in the North Atlantic Also on the lidt would be
Victory at Sea, The enemy below, and Sink the BismarkIf you want some additional movies that are excellent for the Pacific theater some would include The Valiant hours, Run Silent Run Deep, Midway, Guadalcnal Diary, Task Force, In Love and War, Sands of Iwo Jima, Bataan, Back to Bataan and They were Expendable
There are many others.
Stay well - stay safe - Stay armed - Yorktown

"Das Bot" ... was a pretty grim movie and showed that the German Navy was the least nazi-fied of their military branches. Notice how the ending was ripped off from Moby Dick, in that only the writer/story teller survives. "And I only am escaped alone to tell thee."
